NFL-Trade-Deadline-3-Landing-Spots-for-Derrick-Henry

With less than a week until the 2023 NFL trade deadline, there are a few teams who should be making some moves. With that, there have been rumblings of the Tennessee Titans potentially dealing their star running back, Derrick Henry.

Derrick Henry (RB) Tennessee Titans

In the final year of his contract, it makes sense that the Titans could move on from the veteran running back. Henry is currently 29 years old and will turn 30 in January. Needless to say, this is beyond the dropoff for most NFL running backs. No, Henry is certainly not like most running backs. However, there’s no denying that running backs tend to decline around age 29.

So far this year, Henry has been averaging 14.55 PPR points per game in fantasy football. That’s 15th in the league for all qualifying running backs, which is fairly low considering what we expect Henry to do. Additionally, that includes a Week 3 performance against the Browns where he only had 2 PPR points and a 9.2-point performance in Week 5 against the Colts. Needless to say, he’s still going to produce for fantasy purposes, but the decline is inevitable.

Furthermore, we’ve seen rookie Tyjae Spears slowly gain a decent role in this offense. In the first six games, Spears has a 5.5 average YPC to Henry’s 4.3. Additionally, Spears has more targets (20) and more receptions (15) than Henry has as well.

Another reason to believe that Henry could be on the move was made recently. We saw the Titans recently sent Kevin Byard to the Philadelphia Eagles. With Ryan Tannehill struggling and now dealing with an ankle injury, Will Levis will get a chance to show us what he can do. Ultimately, he should split time with Malik Willis who will be wanting to prove himself as well.

All things considered, there are a few teams who should be in the market for the stud running back.

Baltimore Ravens

With the unfortunate injury to JK Dobbins, veteran Gus Edwards has been taking over lead running back duties for the Ravens. It’s clear that the Ravens have struggled a bit this year under Todd Monken. However, things have certainly been trending up and Lamar Jackson has been playing great as of late. As the 1st place team in the AFC North, the Ravens are clearly trying to win now and could absolutely use some help in their backfield. A running back like Henry would make this offense extremely scary on the ground.

Dallas Cowboys

Tony Pollard has been a very solid starting running back for the Cowboys. However, he’s a very explosive and talented pass-catching back who could really do some damage as a change of pace back, as we saw when Ezekiel Elliott was in Dallas. All things considered, I wouldn’t put it past Jerry Jones to make some noise in the running back market and bring in Henry.

Miami Dolphins

As more of a “just for fun” landing spot, This Miami Dolphins backfield has been extremely fun to watch this year. However, some offshore sportsbooks have the Dolphins as a potential favorite to land Henry.

From veteran Raheem Mostert having some monster performances to rookie De’Von Achane blowing up, this team has some serious speed. We’ve seen the Dolphins get aggressive near the trade deadline in recent years and this one would be very fun to see. A backfield with Henry, Achane, and Mostert would be one of the best in the NFL.
