Scoring Format

The complete scoring format can be viewed here along with other rules for the tournament. In summary, there are no penalties (ie. -2 points per fumble) and there are lots of ways to score. Scott has brought back .25 points per carry and 1 point for first downs (except for quarterbacks who only receive .10 points). Tight ends receive an additional full point per reception and per first down.

These scoring changes will have some major impacts. First, runningbacks will be valuable once again! Yes, Travis Kelce will be an absolute stud if he continues to be the best tight end in football. Additionally, rushing quarterbacks will get even more of an edge. Last year, six quarterbacks rushed 100 or more times resulting in an average boost of 1.5 points per game without factoring in rushing yards or touchdowns!

Overall Trends

Accept it now that your draft is going to be full of surprises! With 29 leagues already drafted through the first 10 rounds there is a huge range of possibilities in when a player gets selected. Before even escaping the first round of ADP, there are players that have over a full round of variance from their lowest selection to their highest.

The first round is almost all quarterbacks. With that, if you don’t grab a stud quarterback in the first you need to be prepared with some mid-round targets. By the end of the 5th round, the quarterback pool has significantly dried up.

Despite the significant premium added to tight end scoring, there is still value to be had. While having Kelce on your team will feel ecstatic you could use that early first-round pick on an elite rushing quarterback and still walk away from your draft with a top-6 tight end as late as the 6th round. If you’re really feeling ambitious, you could punt tight end and take one of the high-upside prospects after pick 100.

If you’re looking for some late-round tight end options to target this year, read this.

Kickers are people too and Scott tries reminding us of that fact each year it seems. However, you can usually wait until the double-digit rounds before needing to spend on a kicker. The ability to flex a kicker (only available in MFL leagues!) provides an opportunity to take advantage of the decimal yardage scoring (ie. a 43-yard field goal is worth 4.3 points) and the lack of penalties for missing kicks.
