Should You Sell Jonathan Taylor In Dynasty Leagues?

What do Todd Gurley, David Johnson, Saquon Barkley, and Christian McCaffrey all have in common? They were once considered “untouchable” running backs that have seen their value significantly drop off since.

Running backs have extremely short shelf lives in the NFL, which is why I am always advocating selling them at their highest value. Dalvin Cook, Ezekiel Elliott, and Alvin Kamara are all 26-year-old running backs that the dynasty community has been saying to sell for a couple of years now because they are getting old. For NFL running backs, at least.

That brings us to Jonathan Taylor. The unquestioned top running back asset in dynasty leagues. He is coming off a season where he had 2,171 all-purpose yards and 20 touchdowns. What could Taylor possibly do to gain value from where he currently is? Not much. On the flip side, there is plenty of opportunity for his value to drop (injuries, regression, etc.).

For that reason, I would be looking to drop down a tier at running back and gain some additional value on my roster. I would consider the following trades for Taylor that I’ve seen:

Taylor for Javonte Williams + 2023 1st (Early)

Taylor for D’Andre Swift + 2023 1st (Early)

Taylor for Ja’Marr Chase

Taylor for Justin Jefferson

Taylor is not necessarily a must-sell, but if I am a middle of the pack team or a rebuilder I would be looking to move him. Anytime a player has this high of a price tag it’s worth at least considering. Especially a running back. Build your roster around stud quarterbacks and wide receivers. Draft rookie running backs or trade for the “old” running backs that people are selling at a discount.
