Travis Kelce 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Travis Kelce 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

When it comes to dominating a position, no one has been more consistent than Travis Kelce. Not to mention that this past season alone Kelce would have finished as the WR5 in PPR leagues. Although he didn’t break any tight-end records, he did set a personal record in targets (152), receptions (110), and touchdowns (12).

When it comes to a fantasy difference-maker, Kelce is the best of them all hands down. It should be noted that Kelce scored 100.9 more PPR points and 65.8 more non-PPR points than the No.2 tight end. To clarify this, the difference between Kelce and the No.2 tight end is the same difference from the TE2 to the TE17.

While averaging three more points in non-PPR and five points in PPR in points per game was the same difference from TE2 to TE9 in non-PPR and TE2 to TE12 in PPR. Amazing how far of a spread it was from Kelce to everyone else. If you had Kelce on your team, you were more than likely a playoff contender last season.

Since 2016, Kelce has finished no lower than TE2, and outside of his rookie year has never finished any worse than TE8. Overall, it’s safe to say that Kelce will look to repeat as the TE1 overall this year.

Fantasy Football Outlook for 2023

Currently, Kelce is being drafted as the top tight end in all formats. Although many will knock on him turning 34 this season, he has shown no signs of slowing down. With the losses of Mecole Hardman and JuJu Smith-Schuster to free agency, this wide receiver core is still unproven. Even with second-year wide receiver Skyy Moore, another year of Kadarius Toney, and the drafting of Rashee Rice, we should see a similar output from Kelce.

There should be once again a ton of targets for Kelce and an opportunity to break the tight-end record in targets and receptions. To get a similar production as last season should be something we expect with this unproven wide receiver core.

Since 2016, Mark Andrews is the only tight end to outscore Kelce. As long as there is no decline due to his age, Kelce could once again be that difference-maker to your fantasy team due to his excellent skills and positional scarcity. Although he’ll be more than likely a first-round pick, I feel like you will be drafting him at his ceiling. Yet, you will have a set-it-and-forget-it asset in your lineup week in, and week out.

As expected, Kelce is the TE1 according to our own 2023 fantasy football rankings.

Dynasty Football Outlook

Many dynasty rankings, including FantasyPros, have Kelce listed not as the TE1, but as TE2 or TE3. As stated above Kelce has been a top-2 tight end since 2016 and is showing no signs of regression. Going in the 2nd – 3rd rounds of dynasty startup drafts sets you up in a win-now situation. Although the only red flag he has here is age. With this in mind, I’m willing to go down with the ship having him as my TE1.
