Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 8

Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 8

Week 8 is approaching, and there are players on bye weeks that we need to fill in and injuries we need to replace. Standout rookie running back Breece Hall was the big injury of the week tearing his ACL, and ending his season. Mike Williams is out for multiple weeks with an ankle injury and David Njoku is out as well. We see the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers on a bye week, so Patrick Mahomes, Austin Ekeler, and Justin Herbert managers are going to need replacement options.

Quarterbacks

Daniel Jones, New York Giants

ESPN Rostered: 28.7%

Yahoo Rostered: 40%

The New York Giants are 6-1. That is a wild statement to write. The Giants are behind Saquan Barkley, but also because their quarterback is giving them excellent play. Daniel Jones completed 19 of 30 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown but added 11 rushes for 107 yards and a touchdown. Jones is getting the job done in the air, and on the ground. He’s operating without his top two wide receivers in Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney. Jones is 100% in the streamable conversation.

Bailey Zappe, New England Patriots

ESPN Rostered: 1.3%

Yahoo Rostered: 4%

Mac Jones has been benched, and Bailey Zappe is in. Zappe led the Patriots to touchdowns on his first two possessions on Monday night, and it seems he has the job for now. Zappe is going to be a very popular waiver addition this week, and in Superflex formats is 100% worth the FAAB.

Sam Ehlinger, Indianapolis Colts

ESPN Rostered: 0%

Yahoo Rostered: 1%

Matt Ryan seems to be benched and done for the season in Indianapolis. Sam Ehlinger now has the chance to run away with the job. He has several options to throw to. Michael Pittman, Alec Pierce, Parris Campbell, Jonathan Taylor, and Nyheim Hines all give Ehlinger steaming consideration for the rest of the season in Superflex leagues or deeper fantasy football leagues.

Andy Dalton, New Orleans Saints

ESPN Rostered: 1.9%

Yahoo Rostered: 3%

While Andy Dalton is in the starting conversation, he is worth a look as a starter in Superflex formats. Dalton completed 30 of 47 passes for 361 yards and four touchdowns against the Cardinals. He did throw three interceptions, but the passing yards and touchdowns were there. He operated without Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry on Thursday night. It’s worth monitoring what the Saints choose to do with Dalton and Jameis Winston, but Dalton is worth a look in those Superflex and deeper formats.

PJ Walker, Carolina Panthers

ESPN Rostered: 0.7%

Yahoo Rostered: 2%

With Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold both set to return soon, PJ Walker is playing to keep his job, and pulled off a major upset Sunday, defeating Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Walker completed 16 of 22 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns. Walker played very well in this one and has a chance next against the Atlanta Falcons to try and keep the starting role.

Malik Willis, Tennessee Titans

ESPN Rostered: 0.6%

Yahoo Rostered: 1%

Ryan Tannehill left Sunday’s game against the Colts with an ankle injury but was able to come back in and complete the game. Tannehill was wearing a walking boot and is hopeful he will play next week. If Tannehill cannot go, Malik Willis becomes a very intriguing option to stream, mostly in Superflex formats, but also in deeper fantasy football leagues.

Running Backs

Gus Edwards, Baltimore Ravens

ESPN Rostered: 16.1%

Yahoo Rostered: 43%

With the news of J.K. Dobbins injury, Gus Edwards looks to have the lead in the backfield for Baltimore. Edwards rushed 16 times for 66 yards and two touchdowns. He only saw one target. Edwards right now should be the top target on the waiver wire for running backs (in the event Michael Carter is not available). Kenyan Drake carried the ball 11 times, but only for five yards.

D’Onta Foreman, Carolina Panthers

ESPN Rostered: 35.3%

Yahoo Rostered: 49%

With the recent trade of Christian McCaffrey, the Carolina backfield became a huge question mark. The answer seems to be both running backs have value, with D’Onta Foreman in the lead. Foreman rushed 15 times for 118 yards and caught both of his targets for 27 yards. Foreman and Chuba Hubbard are each priority add this week if they’re still available.

Chuba Hubbard, Carolina Panthers

ESPN Rostered: 25.8%

Yahoo Rostered: 36%

Like Foreman, Hubbard had a good game on Sunday in their upset over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Hubbard rushed nine times for 63 yards and a touchdown. Hubbard caught two of three targets for 10 yards. While Foreman saw more rushes, Hubbard scored the lone touchdown of the group. Both running backs are good adds this week. Foreman should be the top claim over Hubbard, but you can’t go wrong getting either.

Rachaad White, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

ESPN Rostered: 20.7%

Yahoo Rostered: 29%

Rachaad White is an elite backup running back to roster. White rushed six times for 24 yards and caught one of two targets for eight yards. Leonard Fournette rushed eight times for 19 yards. While we don’t expect White to overtake a healthy Leonard Fournette, he’s someone that needs to be rostered. White has shown he can produce when given the ball, and if he’s on the waiver wire, he’s a must-roster if you have the space.

Isiah Pacheco, Kansas City Chiefs

ESPN Rostered: 14%

Yahoo Rostered: 50%

Isiah Pacheco got the start this week for Kansas City. He rushed eight times for 43 yards and was not targeted out of the backfield. Clyde Edwards-Helaire rushed six times for 32 yards and a touchdown. Pacheco is a nice addition if you’re looking for the Breece Hall replacement. This was a tough matchup, but it’s worth monitoring, and a roster spot in the event he sees more rushes in the coming weeks.

Tyler Allgeier, Atlanta Falcons

ESPN Rostered: 30.3%

Yahoo Rostered: 40%

With Cordarrelle Patterson coming back in the coming weeks, Tyler Allgeier is doing all he can with the expanded role. He rushed 16 times for 50 yards, and a goal-line touchdown. Caleb Huntley only saw six carries, showing Allgeier is the lead back for the time being. Dynasty-wise, Allgeier is an excellent addition as well. In five of his six games recording a rush, he has seen double-digit targets, with this past week being his season high (16).

Latavius Murray, Denver Broncos

ESPN Rostered: 23.7%

Yahoo Rostered: 40%

Latavius Murray rushed eight times for 24 yards and a touchdown, adding two receptions on 3 targets for -1 yards. While the stat line doesn’t scream go pick up ASAP, it should be noted Melvin Gordon only rushed 11 times for 33 yards. In a game where the offense was struggling, it shows Murray is the clear RB2 in Denver.

Wide Receivers

Parris Campbell, Indianapolis Colts

ESPN Rostered: 2.8%

Yahoo Rostered: 5%

Parris Campbell had a career game Sunday against the Titans. He caught ten of 12 targets for 70 yards and a touchdown. While the yardage doesn’t scream career game, the target share is a different story. In week 6 he saw eleven targets. In Week 7 he saw 12 targets. It might be time to give Campbell a look in deeper formats. Alec Pierce and Michael Pittman were the top two receivers, but Campbell if he can stay healthy, is becoming an option as well.

Wan’Dale Robinson, New York Giants

ESPN Rostered: 13.8%

Yahoo Rostered: 29%

Who is the Giants’ WR1? Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney are still out. Wan’Dale Robinson is an exciting option in fantasy as he put up back-to-back respectable fantasy performances. Against the Jaguars, he caught six of eight targets for 50 yards. While those aren’t over-the-top numbers, he has put up two double-digit fantasy performances in a full-point PPR format. All these targets came in the first half.

Braxton Berrios, New York Jets

ESPN Rostered: 1.2%

Yahoo Rostered: 3%

Ok, yes, I know. A Jets wide receiver? Corey Davis’ status is up in the air. Elijah Moore is week to week right now. Braxton Berrios is not just your typical receiver. Berrios has a touchdown pass this year and a rushing touchdown. He also operates as the Jets’ kick and punt returner and offers numerous options for fantasy points. Berrios caught three of four targets for 15 yards and added two rushes for 27 yards. Denver’s defense is elite. The Jets have had Berrios rush in all but two games this season. If you need a deep league flex play, Berrios isn’t a bad option.

Marquise Goodwin, Seattle Seahawks

ESPN Rostered: 0.1%

Yahoo Rostered: 1%

With the news of DK Metcalf battling a knee injury, and Tyler Lockett entering the game with a hamstring injury, Marquise Goodwin took advantage of his expanded role. He caught four of five targets for 67 yards and two touchdowns against the Chargers. Goodwin’s role depends on the injury report, but he’s someone worth monitoring while Metcalf is out.

Jameson Williams, Detroit Lions

ESPN Rostered: 30.3%

Yahoo Rostered: 31%

A pure stash play here. Jameson Williams is close to his season debut. The Lions have seen their fair share of injuries this season to D’Andre Swift, and Amon Ra St-Brown this past Sunday suffering a concussion. Jameson Williams has the chance to be a league winner as the highly touted rookie would have possibly been a top ten NFL draft pick if it wasn’t for his injury. Stash and hold, Jameson Williams could break out.

Tight Ends

Greg Dulcich, Denver Broncos

ESPN Rostered: 7.8%

Yahoo Rostered: 11%

The rookie Greg Dulcich is becoming a must-add. Against the Jets, Dulcich caught six of nine targets for 51 yards. With Albert Okwuegbunam being inactive again, Dulcich saw an increase in playing time. Dulcich scored his first career touchdown last week and saw nine targets this week. He is becoming a steaming option at tight end.

Harrison Bryant, Cleveland Browns

ESPN Rostered: 0.2%

Yahoo Rostered: 0%

With David Njoku injured, Harrison Bryant may step into a bigger role now. Njoku was seen in a walking boot using crutches after the game and is set to miss 2-5 weeks. Harrison Bryant becomes an intriguing add. Bryant caught both of his targets for 15 I’ll yards, but seeing Njoku’s role in this offense, Bryant could see that target share, making him a wait-and-see approach if Njoku misses time.
