Fantasy Football – Start Of The Week

Adam Thielen @ DET

The rule for my start of the week is to go beyond the obvious and pick a wide receiver outside the top 24 FantasyPros consensus rankings. Going up against the Detroit Lions, Adam Thielen is my start of the week.

This season, Thielen is dominating as the Panthers WR1. Through four games, he is averaging a staggering 17.6 PPG. Additionally, the Panthers have some of the worst offensive weapons in the league, so by default, at 33 years old, Thielen is the alpha in this offense.

It’s easy to say that Thielen just had a few good games and doesn’t even deserve to be a top-24 guy because of his age. However, it’s become evident that Thielen, who wins with his route running, can still produce. Instead of predicting when Thielen will fall off, giving the man averaging 17.6 PPG his respect makes much more sense.

While the Panthers only have an implied team total of 17.5 points, they’re 7.5-point underdogs. Even if the Panthers don’t score a lot this game, they’ll be playing from behind, forcing Bryce Young to throw the ball a ton. Even though Thielen is no longer in his prime, ranking him outside the top 24 with how he’s been playing is just disrespectful.
