Tight End – Start Of The Week

Pat Freiermuth @ LAR

The rule for my start of the week is to go beyond the obvious and pick a tight end outside the top 12 FantasyPros consensus rankings. Facing off against the Los Angeles RamsPat Freiermuth is my start of the week.

In a disgusting tight-end landscape this week, I’m starting Pat Freiermuth because of his talent. Freiermuth looked great last year, but after dealing with injuries and a pitiful Steelers offense, he’s currently only averaging 6.3 PPG.

The Steelers don’t have a good offense, but this week, they’re projected to score a serviceable 20.25 points. Using these implied team totals helps determine if there’s enough fantasy volume in said offense, and for the Steelers, there is.

This should be a close game, but the Steelers are 2.5-point underdogs, which means they’ll have to throw the ball more. On top of this, the Rams have allowed the eight most fantasy points to tight ends with 11.53 PPG.

Now, It’s worth noting that Freiermuth has a season-high of four targets, leading to his poor play this year. However, we can chalk this up to bad matchups and injuries because Freiermuth had 98 targets in 2022. Freiermuth likely won’t win you your week, but with so few viable tight-end options left, he needs to be a low-end TE1 for week seven.
