Kirk Cousins vs. SF

The rule for my start of the week is to go beyond the obvious and pick a quarterback outside the top 12 FantasyPros consensus rankings. Facing off against the San Francisco 49ers, Kirk Cousins is my start of the week.

Now, many people will come and rip on me for having a quarterback going up against the 49ers for my start of the week. That said, Cousins is averaging 18.1 PPG on the year, and this 49ers defense doesn’t completely shut down opposing quarterbacks.

There’s no denying that the 49ers have a great defense, and it’s less than ideal for a quarterback to play against them. However, so far this year, they’ve given up the 12th most fantasy points to a quarterback with 13.69 PPG. As good as their overall defense is, quarterbacks can still find success from a fantasy lens.

The Vikings are 6.5-point underdogs, which means they’ll be passing the ball all game. We’ve seen over and over again that quarterbacks can rack up cheap yards when the defense is playing with a big lead. Combine that with 39.2 pass attempts per game, and Cousins can easily finish as a mid to low-end QB1.
