Quarterback – Start Of The Week

Geno Smith @ BAL

The rule for my start of the week is to go beyond the obvious and pick a quarterback outside the top 12 FantasyPros consensus rankings. Facing off against the Baltimore Ravens, Geno Smith is my start of the week.

Even after a disappointing season so far, I still have some hope in Geno Smith. We’ve seen what Geno Smith can do in the past, and he has some elite weapons in this offense. More importantly, DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett are both back from injury this week, which should help Smith out a ton.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba has also been getting involved over the past two weeks, and we could see a second-half breakout from him. Smith has only scored 13.8 and 13.9 points in the past two weeks, but he has a good game script for week nine.

The Ravens are heavy 5.5-point favorites, but this favors Smith a ton. Since the Seahawks will be playing from behind, they’ll have to throw the ball a ton, especially in garbage time. Even though the Ravens have a good defense, they’ve allowed the 5th most fantasy points to quarterbacks with 19.27 PPG.

After seeing what Smith did in 2022, I’m really hoping he can turn things around with all these weapons. However, until he does, you can start him as a low-end QB1 at best.
