5 Wide Receivers to Stash for Dynasty Fantasy Football

When it comes to fantasy football, wide receivers continue to climb up draft boards. It’s becoming increasingly important to maintain a strong hoard of receivers if you want to compete. While the stud receivers are flying off boards early, the position is so deep that there are still sleepers/values to target late in drafts or as throw-in trade pieces.

Take a break from all that rookie content and join us as we discuss 5 wide receivers to stash in your dynasty fantasy football leagues. Let’s get right into it.

Darnell Mooney – Free Agent

The last two seasons have not been kind to Darnell Mooney. Following his breakout 2021 season, where he produced an 81-1,055-4 stat line on a near 26% Target Share, Mooney became more of an afterthought for the Bears. Ultimately, he failed to eclipse 40 receptions and 500 yards each of the last two years and now finds himself entering free agency this offseason.

While Mooney has endured consecutive poor seasons, it’s important to remember he is not a player devoid of talent.

Mooney is a free agent this offseason. Notably, he offers game-changing speed to an offense. No, he’s not going to morph into CeeDee Lamb anytime soon, but Mooney can still be a valuable dynasty asset. In the right circumstances, he can return Flex or even WR2 value.

A lot will depend on where he lands in free agency. However, Mooney has previously shown an affinity to draw targets and produce. Currently ranked as WR85 on KeepTradeCut, he’s an ideal buy low trade target and a great late-round pick in startup drafts.

Marvin Mims Jr. – Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos selected Marvin Mims Jr. with the 63rd overall pick in last year’s NFL Draft. He didn’t get much playing time as a rookie. However, when he was on the field, Mims Jr. showed big play ability and demonstrated why the Broncos traded up to select him.

The Broncos have already shipped off first-round bust Jerry Jeudy to the Cleveland Browns. Additionally, there are rumors Denver also wants to move Courtland Sutton. As things stand, Mims Jr. is currently the number two receiver in Denver.

If Sutton is indeed traded, then Mims Jr. has a path to be the Broncos WR1. With Head Coach Sean Payton hinting Mims Jr. would be used more in his sophomore season, he could be primed for a massive year-two leap.

We should keep in mind, Mims Jr. was the first player that Payton selected in last year’s draft. More importantly, he traded up to do so. Should Mims Jr. find more playing time, it’s easy to envision a fantasy-friendly finish in 2024.

Dontayvion Wicks – Green Bay Packers

A fifth-round draft pick out of the University of Virginia, rookie Dontayvion Wicks flashed potential in his debut season with the Packers. He certainly looked the part as his route-running acumen turned heads throughout the year.

In limited action, Wicks posted some impressive advanced metrics. He checked in with a .23 Targets Per Route Run (TPRR) as well as a 2.31 Yards Per Route Run (YPRR) per Fantasy Points Data Suite. We shouldn’t read too much into this small sample, however, this is the kinda of data you love seeing from a rookie.

Yes, Green Bay’s receiving room is crowded. Yet, it’s unclear who will eventually emerge as the top option. With some development, it could be Wicks.

Currently ranked as WR53 on KeepTradeCut, Wicks makes for a good flier in startups. He should improve going forward and can overtake WR2 duties. With a little luck, maybe he becomes Jordan Love‘s top WR. Either way, it’s not a bad idea to take a chance on a young receiver tied to an up-and-coming quarterback.

Khalil Shakir – Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills receiver room is a bit in flux right now. Gabe Davis is a free agent. Stefon Diggs appears disgruntled and his play seemingly declined down the stretch of 2023. Buffalo has said they are still committed to Diggs as their WR1, but it’s a situation to monitor. Khalil Shakir could be in a position to capitalize. Don’t be surprised if the Bills target one of these talented wide receivers in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Shakir came on strong late in the year. Of his 611 receiving yards, 536 came from Weeks 8-18. Josh Allen began looking Shakir’s way whenever the team needed a big play, and Shakir was able to deliver.

Finishing with only 45 targets for the year, Shakir will have to earn more targets to make a true year three leap. He might be able to depending on what happens with the Bills receiver room. Retired wide receiver Cole Beasley had success as Allen’s slot receiver. If Shakir secures this role full time then he could push for WR2 production.

All things considered, Shakir is a great target late in startup drafts.

Demario Douglas – New England Patriots

Okay, this one is going to largely depend on how the Patriots attack the receiver position this offseason. As a rookie, Demario Douglas flashed play-making ability and served as New England’s WR1 at times during the season.

Finishing with 561 receiving yards on 49 receptions, it looked like the Patriots may have found another late-round gem at the position.

With the third pick in April’s draft, many experts have New England selecting a quarterback. If they do, this would bolster Douglas’ chances of entering the season as the Patriots top receiver. Should they select Marvin Harrison Jr. and/or sign a receiver in free agency, that would change Douglas’ outlook significantly.

Look, there are a lot of landlines we need to navigate here. And if we’re being honest, the Patriots are almost certain to add talent to their receiving room in some capacity. They have a ton of cap to work with and New England could look vastly different in 2024 and beyond.

Right now, Douglas is currently ranked as WR58 on KeepTradeCut. Personally, I selected him at pick 16.07 in a recent startup draft. While there are many hurdles to clear, the risk is already baked into the cost.
