7 NFL Members Recognized for Their Betting Enthusiasm

7-NFL-Members-Recognized-for-Their-Betting-Enthusiasm

Different NFL legends are true heroes for a certain number of people across Canada. People admire them because of their hard work, passion and dedication. Yet, something that people rarely know is that some NFL participants are passionate bettors.

Why do we mention this? Everyone has the right to enjoy different activities in privacy, right? Well, by law, neither of the active NFL players has the opportunity to participate in any sports betting activities. More precisely, sports betting is banned for them!

However, there is one thing that we need to highlight in the introduction of this article. Active NFL players do have the right to play casino games, and NFL teams do have the right to make sponsorship deals with gambling brands. But sports betting for active participants (players, coaches, and staff) is illegal.
On this page, we would like to highlight 7 NFL members who are passionate about sports betting. You will probably be surprised when you see some of the world-known names. Let’s go!

Josh Shaw

Josh Shaw is one of the newest names on this list. His story was active in 2019 when he was accused of being involved in a football betting incident. As you probably remember, Shaw was still an active player at that time. It seems almost impossible that he didn’t know his rights and obligations as an NFL player. He tried to justify himself for being injured during that period, but that excuse does not count.

So, what was the outcome of the entire scandal? Shaw was primarily suspended for 21 months. Yet, the NFL league officials stated that there is no evidence Shaw used any inside information that could help him predict the outcomes of certain games.

There is actually a good lesson Canadian sports bettors can get here. Don’t even get involved in fraud inside information since these things rarely happen. Potentially, even Josh Shaw, as an active player, couldn’t get any information. Instead, you should only focus on betting on professional online bookmakers that offer fair odds and margins. If you are looking for the top online betting sites in Canada, check out this page, analyze the games and enjoy betting and NFL to the fullest!

Lamont Jordan

Lamont Jordan, the well-known retired New York Jets player with a very reputable NFL career, got in trouble outside of the court. When you look closer, his career was really rich. For the first time, he was drafted in 2001. After four years playing for NY, he ensured transfers to the Raiders, the Patriots and the Broncos. His career lasted until 2010.

So, in which sports betting scandal did he participate? His story is probably the silliest one on the list. Believe it or not, he got sued by Mirage Casino. This happened in 2009 when the casino brand claimed Lamont gave them a bad check. The value of that check was 20k USD. It really seems unreal that Jordan did that since he could afford much more.

Terrence Kiel

Terrence Kiel has a turbulent history. He was one of the NFL players who could be an all-time legend. However, because of his many off-the-field problems, things did not go in that direction.

So, how does his story go? First, we have to praise him for receiving all-big 12 honorable mentions while he was still at Texas A&M University. That confirms he was a pure talent. In 2003, his problems started when he was a victim of attempted carjacking. In 2006, he was accused of being involved in drug trafficking. Fortunately, he had a good contract, so he managed to pay more than 1.5 million USD and avoid jail. Yet, 2007 is the key year when he was attested for purple-drunk drug trafficking. He highlighted gambling addiction as the reason why he did that.

Art Schlichter

Art Schlichter, in our opinion, had a very sad career story. Everything went well for him immediately after 1982, when he got drafted by the Indian Colts. After that, he managed to sign good contracts with Riders and Ottawa Rough. However, in 1990, his career stopped. The reason for that was – gambling addiction. As Schlichter confirmed himself, he managed to spend the total amount of money he received as an active NFL player on gambling. Since that made him broke and desperate, he committed over 20 felonies. He could be a legend, unfortunately!

Adrian McPherson

McPherson is very popular in Canada since the biggest part of his career was connected with the CFL. Indeed, he started his career in the NFL in 2005 when he was drafted by the New Orleans Saints. However, after that, he decided to become a member of different teams outside of the most popular football league in the world. In 2002, he was arrested for participating in college game betting. He somehow managed to avoid jail time.

Adam Pacman Jones

Well-known Pacman has also had a pretty turbulent life. The former cornerback has really good roles at the Cowboys, the Broncos, and the Bengals. Yet, from this point of view, it seems that life outside of the field was his main focus. Believe it or not, he had legal problems from the first moment he signed a contract with the Tennessee Titans. In 2005, a man got shot, which caused him to become paralyzed because Pacman initiated the altercation.

What about sports betting? Well, the authorities have found out that Pacman was regularly participating in sports betting while he was still an active player. They managed to find out that from phone recordings they got while following Darryl Moor, one of the main drug dealers in the states.

Michael Vick

The betting story of Michael Vick is well-known to everyone. He was accused of running a dog fight gambling den. We believe that every mainstream media in the world has talked about this in 2007. That’s why the NFL legend spent 21 months in jail. Fortunately for him, the Eagles gave him another chance after he came out of jail. He once again showed class there!

Conclusion

There are the most popular NFL participants passionate about betting and gambling. Their stories should serve as lessons. People should know their legal and financial limits before getting into sports betting. If you are a professional athlete, be aware of your obligations!
