Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) – Week 3 Studs and Values
Welcome back to the latest installment of our DFS series on studs and values. This article will focus strictly on Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) and more specifically DraftKings contest for the Sunday slate of games. However, typically the picks will work on FanDuel as well.
This week I’ll be adding something new to my weekly DFS article. Each week I will highlight a few of my picks from the previous week whether it be a smash or a dud. Check out my smash and duds from Week 2 below.
Smash
Daniel Jones was the highest-scoring quarterback with 34.74 points.
Tank Dell at 1.87% ownership crushed his value with a breakout of 20.20 points.
James Cook was a hit on my bold prediction having his best game as a pro with 22.90 points.
Darren Waller was the second highest-scoring tight end behind only Mark Andrews.
Duds
Ja’Marr Chase was only able to bring in five catches for 31 yards.
The Houston Texans’ defense was awful bringing home a negative fantasy score.
Luke Musgrave had a couple of early catches and that was it scoring 4.5 fantasy points.
Overall Week 2 was fairly good to me hitting on some massive value picks. Let’s hope to get even better this week! Time to jump right into the top picks for Week 3.
DFS Studs and Values – Quarterbacks
Lamar Jackson ($7,700)
The former MVP had to adapt to a new offensive coordinator during the offseason. Things looked a little shaky in Week 1 but last week, Jackson looked much more comfortable. The biggest worry for Jackson in the new offense was how much he would factor into the rushing attack. Through the first two games, Lamar has rushed 18 times for 92 yards. JK Dobbins was lost for the season in Week 1 and Jackson saw double the carries.
Moreover, Jackson has been more accurate downfield completing 60% of his throws 20+ yards downfield. That’s an increase of 24.7% from last season. Look for Jackson to have another big week against a bad Colts defense, who have allowed an average of 20.1 fantasy points to quarterbacks this season.
Russell Wilson ($5,900)
Despite the 0-2 record, Wilson is playing much better this season. His five-to-one touchdown to interception ratio is a huge improvement from 2022. Furthermore, he had a couple of beautiful vintage Russ deep balls last week, especially the touchdown to Marvin Mims Jr. Wilson faces the Miami Dolphins defense this week, who have allowed an average of 297 passing yards per game. Look for Russ to continue his good start and have another big game on Sunday.
DFS Studs and Values – Running Backs
Tony Pollard ($8,000)
Pollard is and will continue to be one of the top running backs this season. Last week against a very tough New York Jets defense, Pollard has been able to handle the workload seeing 25 carries and seven receptions. This week the Cowboys are going up against a much softer Arizona Cardinals defense. The Cardinals defense just allowed all-purpose running back Saquon Barkley, who is similar to Pollard, score 27.20 fantasy points. Pollard should have a similar workload to Barkley’s, so expect a similar game during this week’s matchup.
Roschon Johnson ($4,700)
Johnson was made the official RB2 this weekend after the Bears made D’Onta Foreman a healthy scratch. Johnson is the pass-catching/3rd down running back. With the Bears being -12.5 underdogs, they are going to have to air it out in this matchup. Furthermore, Justin Fields missed Johnson on a wheel route for a touchdown last weekend. Don’t be surprised if they go back to that play and Fields hits Johnson this week for six.
DFS Values – Wide Receivers
Jerry Jeudy ($6,500)
Jeudy played his first game of the season last week after dealing with a hamstring injury throughout the preseason. The results were fairly disappointing considering his end of the season last year. In their final seven games to end the 2022 season, Wilson and Jeudy were able to connect for an average of 87.1 yards in seven games. Jeudy’s five targets combined with his production from last season are enough to feel confident in drafting Jeudy in our lineups this week.
The former Alabama star is a good bounce-back candidate this week. They face the Miami Dolphins in a game that should be a shootout. The Broncos’ defense can’t stop anyone and the Dolphins’ offense has been excellent to begin the season. Look for Jeudy to put up big numbers especially in the second half as Denver tries to mount a comeback.
Elijah Moore ($4,700)
Moore was traded from the New York Jets to the Cleveland Browns this offseason. He hasn’t gotten the best results through two games but the target share has certainly been there. On the season thus far, he has seen 25% of targets per route run. Furthermore, he gets a glorious matchup against a pass funnel defense in the Tennessee Titans. The Titans’ defense has allowed 476 receiving yards and three touchdowns to wide receivers alone! Moore will put together his best game as a Brown this week.
DFS Studs and Values – Tight Ends
Mark Andrews ($6,000)
The reliable tight end made his return to the Ravens lineup last week after missing Week 1. Andrews picked right up where he left off last season, scoring a touchdown and seeing a 24.2% target share. This week he faces a Colts defense, who have allowed 110 receiving yards to tight ends this season. Andrews is still going to be one of Lamar’s top targets and will continue to be that this week.
Dalton Kincaid ($3,400)
The rookie first-round pick saw his snap share decrease this week but his targets went up. The decrease in snaps isn’t a cause for concern, as Buffalo with a big lead heading into the fourth quarter only attempted four fourth quarter passes. This week, Kincaid gets a matchup against the Washington Commanders. Don’t be swayed away from Kincaids because of the Commanders’ Week 1 performance against tight ends. The Broncos were missing Greg Ducich so the tight ends weren’t involved in the passing attack. However, in Week 1 the Commanders allowed eight receptions to the Arizona Cardinals tight ends. Kincaid’s salary this week does not reflect his potential and is a tremendous value pick.
DFS Values – Defense / Special Teams
New England Patriots ($3,500)
Last week, the Houston Texans let me down severely. This week it’s time to go back to the old reliable Bill Belichick-led Patriots defense. They face third-year quarterback Zach Wilson who has been dominated by this defense in the past. In four games against the Patriots, Wilson has been sacked 11 times and threw seven interceptions. Wilson has already been sacked five times and thrown four interceptions in two games. There’s no reason to believe that won’t continue this week.
Don’t forget to check your lineups before lock in case of any last-minute injuries. Good luck with and go win some money!
