Buys

Leonard Fournette – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The hate has gone too far on Leonard Fournette. As the current RB24 in dynasty, I am buying. Sure you may be a bit concerned about his age being that he is 27, but he did just sign a three-year extension with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for $21M. Most dynasty players are usually looking to get young, and tend to undersell players like Fournette because of their age.

If I’m in contention, I am willing to trade a late 2022 1st-Round pick, because if you’re in contention, that’s more than likely the pick you have. Don’t let rookie Rachaad White‘s strong words scare you off, though he may very well think he’s taking this backfield from Fournette. If you are looking for a running back who should give you at least two more years of RB1 numbers then don’t overthink it and go get Lombardi Lenny now! – Ryan Miner

Travis Etienne – Jacksonville Jaguars

I was big on Travis Etienne last year around this same time and I will continue to buy shares of Etienne this season. In his last full season of work at Clemson, with Trevor Lawrence, Etienne led the country in receiving yards and second in receptions for running backs. In Doug Pederson’s newly installed offense, I expect Etienne to have a big role and see a ton of work out of the backfield, especially in the passing game. His biggest competition is James Robinson who is still recovering from a brutal Achilles injury.  – Brendan O’Bryan

Devin Singletary – Buffalo Bills

The drafting of James Cook by the Bills took a chunk out of Devin Singletary‘s dynasty value. In the public eye at least. Looking into this a bit deeper, I believe it really just spells the end of Zack Moss‘s value. Cook is a pass-catching specialist, even better in that regard than his brother older brother, Dalvin Cook. Singletary is the superior back when running the ball and will be used as the Bills’ primary man out of the backfield in running situations.

Allen still poses a threat as he is one of the elite scrambling quarterbacks in the NFL but he can’t, and won’t, do it all. This is the lowest value we’re likely going to see Singletary at in the near future. If you can get him at a good price, take your shot. He may provide multiple years of production at the position and he hasn’t seen a lot of wear-and-tear on those tires yet. If you’re into buying low, now is the time for Singletary. – Benjamin Ditlevson

Alexander Mattison – Minnesota Vikings

Alexander Mattison will be 24 on June 19th. He is currently younger than Najee Harris and will become a free agent after the 2022 season. He is an easy buy at his current price.

In 2021, when Cook was inactive and Mattison had the lead running back role he averaged the following stats on a per-game basis:

  • 19.3 fantasy points per game in PPR
  • 21.5 rushing attempts
  • 89 rushing yards
  • 4.0 YPC
  • 0.5 rushing TDs
  • 5.5 targets
  • 40.5 receiving yards
  • 0.25 receiving TDs

Keep Trade Cut currently says you could give up your 2022 2.10 pick for Mattison. I would be comfortable sending as early as 2022 2.04 in a 12-team Superflex league to grab him. – Alex Brunsen

Sells

Ezekiel Elliott – Dallas Cowboys

Dallas lost La’el Collins and Connor Williams on the offensive line over the off-season. They drafted an offensive tackle in the 1st and 5th Rounds of the NFL Draftraft but there is no guarantee they will be good in year one. Over the last two seasons, Ezekiel Elliott has failed to see more than 250 carries and we’ve all seen Tony Pollard getting a bigger role in the offense. Elliott’s yards per game have decreased every year since his rookie season. I see the defense taking a step back and the offense finding themselves in negative game scripts more often.

Most dynasty managers might be looking at his current price and think it might be a good time to buy low, but I’m out. Elliott is trending in the wrong direction and honestly, Pollard oftentimes looked better last year. If you can get a nice return for him, I’d consider selling Elliott while his value is still fairly high. – Steven Ransbottom

Derrick Henry – Tennessee Titans

Before breaking his foot last season, Derrick Henry was by far the best running back in the league. With that fresh in everyone’s minds, it’s the perfect time to cash in and get what you can out of Henry before the wheels fall off. Henry turned 28 back in January, and we all know that running backs of his age can start to decline fairly quick. At his age and with over 1,500 career carries, those wheels are due to fall off soon. I would be actively trying to shop Henry around right now and see if you can’t get some high-end return out of Henry before his value really starts to drop.  – Brendan O’Bryan

JK Dobbins – Baltimore Ravens

The value is just so high still even after J.K. Dobbins tore his ACL a year ago. The fantasy community is high on him and FantasyPros has him as the consensus RB16. Yes, he is young as 23 years old, but he is coming off an ACL tear that he tore in the final preseason game of 2020. Gus Edwards is no slouch and will be back as well. He is under a two-year deal and will be around through 2022 and 2023, at least. The Ravens also grabbed rookie Tyler Badie who could be a nice option in the receiving game.

Dobbins is projected to start on the PUP and I have a feeling he will be similar to Barkley last year who came off the ACL tear that he had in Week 2 of the 2020 season, but didn’t look like himself. I’m banking on a slow start coming back and a potential split backfield. Now might be the time to sell him and get the max value before a drop-off comes.  – Ryan Miner
