2022 Fantasy Football – Offenses Primed to Explode

2022-Fantasy-Football-Offenses-primed-to-Explode

Last season we saw offenses like the Bengals and Eagles explode. So what offenses are primed to explode this year? I have identified four offenses that I believe will explode this yearI will go into detail about why I see these offenses making a major leap in the ranks. I even see one of these teams finishing as a top-eight offense with top-five potential. Let’s start with none other than the  Detroit Lions.

Detroit Lions

This Lions team is not without playmakers on the offense. They’ve got D’Andre Swift, Jamaal Williams, T.J. Hockenson, DJ Chark, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and rookie wide receiver Jameson WilliamsYes, they have Jared Goff at quarterback, but he is more than capable of getting the ball in the hands of his playmakers. You heard it here first, Goff will be a top 15 quarterback in fantasy football this year. Making him a nice streaming option in redraft leagues and a great value as a QB2 for Superflex leagues.

As for the running backs, Swift is an electric player who is going to have a monster season and finish as a top-five running back. When Swift gets the ball he is a highlight play waiting to happen. There is a ton of hype around Swift, and rightfully so. Williams has shown to be a productive running back when given the opportunity. Both of these running backs are good pass catchers as well.

Now onto the pass catchers. Hockenson is very talented and has already had a top-five season in only three years in the league. Staying healthy will be the key here. As a rookie, St. Brown had an incredible stretch of games to finish the season and will look to continue that into this season. On top of all this, the Lions brought in Chark through free agency and drafted Williams. Chark has battled with injuries but in his healthiest season, he finished top 20 in 15 games. Had it not been for the ACL injury you could easily make an argument for Williams as the best wide receiver in the draft.

This team and the offense, in particular, are gonna make some noise this year. If their defense struggles, as they should, this offense could be a very fun one for fantasy football purposes.

New York Jets

This Jets team is not your dad’s Jets team and even though Robert Saleh is a defensive coach this tea has weapons on offense. Mark my words, this year is going to be Zach Wilson’s coming-out party. He has more than enough talent at running back and wide receiver to put up some great numbers. Looking at their schedule I see a handful of games that could be shootouts. Although Wilson finished as QB30 last year I believe he will finish inside the top 18 this season. He had only nine passing touchdowns last season in the 13 games he played. This season I see him having nearly triple that number with 24-25 touchdowns.

For the running backs, you’ve got rookie Breece Hall and second-year running back Michael Carter. Carter was drafted in the 4th round last year and finished with nearly 1,000 total yards in 14 games. In this year’s draft, the Jets selected Hall, who was the consensus top running back in the 2nd round. Hall and Carter will be one of the more dominant running back duos in the league. Don’t be so quick to write off Carter. If this offense has as good of a year as I think it will he could be a solid RB3.

Now let’s discuss the wide receivers. Elijah MooreCorey Davis, and rookie Garrett WilsonDavis will be back and healthy after missing half the season last year and Moore will improve on what he did in his rookie season when he had five receiving touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. Wilson is coming off a 70-1,058-12 line in his junior year and will be a great weapon for Wilson. This is a young wide receiver group tied to a young talented quarterback. This offense can grow together and be great for many years.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos got a new quarterback in Russell Wilson. Is he going to do what Drew Lock or Teddy Bridgewater couldn’t do and take this offense to the next level? I believe so. I see a huge year for Wilson. Last season the Broncos had only 20 passing touchdowns. This season Wilson will have almost double that number. In 10 seasons Wilson finished outside the top-12 just once! That was last year when for the first time he missed three games due to injury. Mark my words Wilson will be a top 10 quarterback this season.

At running back there is everyone’s man-crush Javonte Williams and the veteran Melvin Gordon. When you watch Williams play he makes breaking tackles look easy and you can see why everyone is crazy about him. Gordon still has enough left in the tank to be productive and contribute to the team. Look for another split backfield, with Williams slowly getting a bit more of the majority.

There are several good options at wide receiver and tight end for Wilson. At tight end there is Albert Okwuegbunam who is big and has impressive speed, running a 4.49 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. With Noah Fant gone he will get his shot to show what he can do. Then you’ve got Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, and Tim Patrick at wide receiver. With both Sutton and Jeudy healthy and Wilson at quarterback, I see them putting up some big numbers this year. Sutton will flirt with WR1 numbers and Jeudy will be a WR2. Patrick looked good in several games last year and is a solid, underrated WR3 for Wilson.

New Orleans Saints

This Saints offense is going to explode and will be a nightmare for defenses this year. Jameis Winston has multiple weapons at his disposal. If he is fully healthy this year he will put up monster numbers. I am talking about 4,200+ passing yards and 35+ passing touchdowns. Make sure you get a piece of this offense because it will be top 10 and put up a ton of fantasy points.

Now let’s talk about these weapons starting with the veteran pass-catching running back, Alvin Kamara. Kamara has been a top-10 running back in PPR every year since entering the league back in 2017. He is one of the most consistent running backs in fantasy and one reason for that is his efficiency as a runner with 4.5 or more YPC in four of his five seasons. Another reason is his ability as a pass-catcher with 81 or more receptions in four of his five seasons. As far as his recent off-field issue, I am not too worried. I think there is a good chance it ends up being a one to two-game suspension or may be pushed to next year.

Now onto the wide receivers and tight end. This pass-catching group has the potential to do some serious damage. They will put fear in the hearts of defenses. There is Michael Thomas, Jarvis Landry, Chris Olave, and the hybrid Taysom Hill. Hill is someone who I had as a sleeper in another article, he will be involved in the offense as a rusher and as a receiver. If Kamara misses several games Hill could see more work as a runner, especially on the goal line. For Thomas, health will be key.  If healthy he could be a candidate for bounce-back player of the year.

Thomas has four top-8 finishes and will be on a mission to prove he is more than just “slantboy”.  Landry is an excellent route-runner and has great hands. He will be a great short to mid-range weapon for Winston. Then there is the rookie, Olave who can stretch the field with his 4.39 speed and Winston has already been giving him praise. Olave is very smooth and can create great separation. With this group of wide receivers and Winston’s arm defenses will have to defend every inch of the field.
