Jordan Addison – 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Jordan Addison - 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Wide Receiver – USC

5’11” 173 lbs

1st Round – 23rd Pick (23rd Overall) – Minnesota Vikings

Pre-Draft Profile

The Minnesota Vikings have made a wise decision by selecting Jordan Addison, the former USC and Pittsburgh standout wide receiver, with the 23rd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Vikings desperately need some help in their wide receiver room after the departure of Adam Thielen, and Addison should be able to provide it.

Addison was a featured wide receiver at both Pittsburgh and USC. In 2021 he won the Biletnikoff Award as the Nation’s most outstanding receiver, putting up 100 receptions, 1,593 receiving yards, and 17 touchdowns. After dominating at Pittsburgh, he entered the transferred portal and ended up on the USC Trojans with head coach Lincoln Riley and Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams. There, he racked up 875 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns in only 11 games played.

Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy football owners can expect Addison to step right into a starting role on one of the best offenses in the NFL. With Thielen gone, 107 targets from last season are up for grabs, and Addison should be able to demand a large chunk of those targets. Additionally, he will be a great fit across from 2022 Offensive Player of the Year, and arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL, Justin Jefferson.

As a prospect, Addison checks a lot of boxes that fantasy football managers look for. He boasts an early breakout age of 18.6 and a college dominator rating of 29.9% according to Player Profiler. However, at the NFL Combine, he measured only 5’11” and 173 pounds, which disappointed many in the fantasy community. Nevertheless, that should not stop him from producing in the NFL, as he has had success up to this point in his young career despite his size.

In terms of fantasy football production, Addison projects as a solid Flex play most weeks with WR3 upside. His ability to get open underneath should complement the Vikings’ offense well. Additionally, he should be expected to be drafted in redraft leagues around the 11th round and have a safe floor as a flex option.

2023 Projections:

  • 16 Games Played
  • 70 Receptions
  • 840 Receiving Yards
  • 5 Touchdowns

In standard scoring leagues, this would be 114.00 points, while in PPR leagues this would be 184.00 points. This would project Addison to be in the WR3 conversation which would have put him in the same range as receivers such as JuJu Smith-Schuster, Diontae Johnson, and Mike Williams last season.

Dynasty Outlook

In dynasty fantasy football leagues, Addison should be targeted between picks 4 through 7 in 1QB leagues. As for Superflex leagues, between picks 8 and 12.

Overall, his long-term fantasy ceiling should be considered a top 20 fantasy football wide receiver. On the other hand, his floor could be simply a spot starter. Overall, Jordan Addison represents a safe floor in a class that includes many boom-or-bust wide receivers.
