2023 2QB Dynasty Rookie Mock Draft – Round 1
The off-season is arguably the most fun time of the year for your dynasty fantasy football leagues. Checking out the upcoming rookies and trying to acquire more future draft picks are what makes dynasty leagues so fun.
We’ll get to see some of these prospects at the Senior Bowl, the NFL Combine, and finally, at the NFL Draft. In 2QB and Superflex leagues, the quarterbacks will be heavily valued, as opposed to your traditional 1QB leagues. This mock will be for 2QB leagues, which are leagues where you’re required to start two quarterbacks. Let’s get right into it with this 2023 NFL Dynasty Rookie Mock Draft.
1.01 – RB Bijan Robinson
2022 Season Stats:
- YDS 1,580 (Rushing)
- TD 18 (Rushing)
- REC 19 (Receiving)
- YDS 315 (Receiving)
Bijan Robinson is one of the best running backs we’ve seen since Saquon Barkley, and it will be tough to pass on him even in a 2QB format. Robinson checks all the boxes of a three-down NFL back as he is a great pass catcher with the ideal NFL running back size at 6′ and 220 pounds. He seems to be a late first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, so if he goes to a good offensive team, that boosts his stock even more. Overall he has the highest floor and ceiling in the draft with no red flags, unlike every other prospect.
1.02 – QB Bryce Young
2022 Season Stats:
- YDS 3,007
- TD 27
- INT 5
- QBR 83.7
Bryce Young is my QB1 in the class, so it only makes sense to take him here in a 2QB league. In 2QB leagues, quarterbacks have elite value, so drafting a guy with upside like Young is the right pick here. The only reason I have him at two is that there is a red flag in Young’s size.
Young looks very Pro-ready, as many scouts have said Young has a fantastic throwing technique which gives him great zip and velocity on his passes. He also has a very quick and NFL-ready release which helps him produce his excellent deep ball. In short, there are some concerns with Young, he has such a high ceiling to where you have to take him at the 1.02.
1.03 – QB C.J. Stroud
2022 Season Stats:
- YDS 3,340
- TD 37
- INT 6
- QBR 87.7
C.J. Stroud has had a good year, he is a Heisman candidate and a potential top-10 NFL draft pick. Stroud fits the mold of an NFL quarterback and will have tremendous draft capital due to this. His scouting report shows his strengths as good touch on balls that attack the defense vertically and horizontally. Overall, Stroud has made excellent decisions, gotten the ball out fast, and sprayed the field with great accuracy.
Stroud is mobile and can move in the pocket very well. However, he doesn’t take off very often, which hurts a quarterback’s value in fantasy and ultimately, for your dynasty teams.
1.04 – RB Jahmyr Gibbs
2022 Season Stats:
- YDS 850 (Rushing)
- TD 7 (Rushing)
- REC 42 (Receiving)
- YDS 378 (Receiving)
Since this is a 2QB format, I’ll take Jahmyr Gibbs here at the 1.04. Gibbs is a great pass catcher as he projects well at a fantasy level due to his Alvin Kamara-type playstyle. He is a fantastic athlete, fast, and has solid strength. NFL scouts have praised his cuts and decision-making as he has the vision, and confidence to hit holes and possesses fluidity as a runner. Ultimately, where Gibbs goes in the NFL Draft and if he can get that three-down role will play a big part in his value this offseason.
1.05 – WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba
*Sophmore Stats* (Played just three games in 2022)
2021 Season Stats:
- REC 95
- YDS 1,606
- TD 9
At 1.05, we have our first wide receiver off the board in Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Smith looked like the clear WR1 and checks all the boxes with elite draft capital, declaring early, early breakout age, and has played with elite-level competition. In his Sophomore year, Smith led Ohio State in receptions and yardage in 2021 despite playing officially as the third receiver behind Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson.
Smith has a great in-route tree and is often used on deep routes, getting separation down the sideline or over the middle on crossing routes by extending his arms rather than pure speed. Similar to Amon-Ra St. Brown, he is the type of player where he has good but not elite speed.
1.06 – WR Quentin Johnston
2022 Season Stats:
- REC 53
- YDS 903
- TD 5
Quentin Johnston could be one of the best wide receivers in this 2023 rookie draft class as he could be the first receiver drafted this year and a potential top-10 pick in the NFL Draft. He has a fantastic build at 6’4 and 210 pounds. On top of that, he has vertical-jumped 42 inches, broad-jumped 11 feet, and clocked a 4.4 40. He’ll make some noise at the NFL Combine for sure.
Johnston has looked great making catches in traffic, with an impressive catch radius due to his long arms and elite leaping ability. He is just as dangerous in catch-and-run situations as he is excellent at taking the top off a defense. Finally, he checks every box, and where he lands and measurements could easily move him ahead of Smith-Njigba.
1.07 – WR Jordan Addison
2022 Season Stats:
- REC 59
- YDS 875
- TD 8
Jordan Addison projects to be a slot receiver in the NFL due to his size, but he has excellent speed. He checks all the boxes as an elite athlete with tremendous projected draft capital. On the field, he looks great in his cuts, route running, hands, and getting great separation, especially on deep routes. However, my only concern is his size at 6′ and 175 pounds, which projects him to be a slot-only receiver. Ultimately, he may jump up when we see his official measurables and landing spot, but I have him as my WR3 right now.
1.08 – QB Will Levis
2022 Season Stats:
- YDS 2,406
- TD 19
- INT 10
- QBR 60.3
Going back to the quarterback position, I don’t love any of these other quarterbacks, even in a 2QB format, but Will Levis has excellent upside and will have fantastic NFL Draft capital. Levis has looked very good on medium and long passes, flashes anticipation and placement on intermediate outs, and can lead his receivers on deeper throws. On top of this, he has a very fast release and processes his reads quickly. Therefore, Levis is my QB3 in this class due to his very high upside and is likely to have fantastic capital.
1.09 – RB Sean Tucker
2022 Season Stats:
- YDS 1060(Rushing)
- TD 11 (Rushing)
- REC 36 (Receiving)
- YDS 254 (Receiving)
Sean Tucker has looked outstanding this year and is my RB3 in this class. I only moved Levis up because this is a 2QB format. Tucker has some size concerns measuring 5′ 10 and 205 pounds. He has shown good hands with good open space ability due to his stop-start ability, which allows him to create initial separation. Furthermore, he is very explosive but hasn’t shown enough in the power department, raising questions about if he can be a three-down back. However, because he is a good pass catcher and has that additional upside, he is my RB3.
1.10 – QB Anthony Richardson
2022 Season Stats:
- YDS 2,549
- TD 17
- INT 19
- QBR 70.6
While I’m below the consensus on Anthony Richardson, he does have the perfect NFL size and all the talent in the world. Richardson has an elite-level rushing upside to pair with a very strong arm, a quick release delivering tight spirals and good accuracy at the intermediate levels. However, he can improve on his short and deep ball, but the potential is there. My concern is if Richardson will be a solid real-life quarterback, as he has big red flags in holding the ball too long and being a one-read-and-go guy. Richardson has one of the highest upsides in the draft but is still my QB4.
1.11 – QB Hendon Hooker
2022 Season Stats:
11 Games Played (ACL Injury)
- YDS 3,135
- TD 27
- INT 2
- QBR 89.4
Hendon Hooker is 24 and coming off a torn ACL. However, at this point in a 2QB rookie draft, if you’re taking a quarterback, you have massive red flags for anyone. His age doesn’t bother me as much in a quarterback prospect as his breakout age was 21.
Hooker has a fast release and a great arm, delivering tight spirals. Hooker also shows good accuracy at the short and intermediate levels. He is very mobile and has looked very good getting the ball downfield. As a result, he is still my QB5 in this class, but his landing spot and injury progression could change that.
1.12 – TE Michael Mayer
2022 Season Stats:
- REC 67
- YDS 809
- TD 9
Coming out of Notre Dame, Michael Mayer is one of the best tight ends in this talented 2023 class. Even though the position is very hit or miss, a late first is a fantastic value for Mayer. Mayer is projected to be a late 1st Round NFL Draft pick which gives him good capital and could put him in a tremendous situation.
Two situations where he could thrive are the Chargers in an elite offense or getting a very high target share in Tennesee. Mayer has a good initial burst off the snap which will help draw a good amount of targets in the NFL. Finally, is also an excellent blocker which will help land him in a good situation and get him on the field early and often.
