Each offseason during the pre-draft process, certain lesser-known prospects show draftable traits and skills at the NFL Combine or during team workouts. This year, Louisville’s 2023 starting running back Isaac Guerendo is that player who showed out at the Combine and placed himself on the NFL radar. He ran a 4.33 40-yard dash at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine and tested well in other areas as well. This has propelled him into a draftable prospect both for the NFL and more importantly, for your dynasty fantasy football rosters.

Isaac Guerendo (RB) Louisville – Dynasty Rookie Profile

Height: 6’0

Weight: 221 lbs

Guerendo started his career with the Wisconsin Badgers, never eclipsing more than 400 rushing yards while backing up Braelon Allen. This past year, after transferring to Louisville, he scored 11 rushing touchdowns while accruing 810 yards. Additionally, he had a respectable 22 receptions, showing versatility and ability in the open field. Let’s take a look at the skills he displayed at the NFL Combine, and what makes them enticing for us dynasty managers.

Strengths

Speed

Guerendo’s 4.33 40-yard dash was the fastest of the running backs in 2024, and that has propelled him into a tier with Frank Gore Jr. and Ray Davis, maybe even above them. His late rise in the process and lack of college production may make dynasty managers wary, but when a player with speed gets a chance at the next level, it’s worth a look. He will need to be prioritized in space for whoever drafts him, but that could lead him to a solid complementary role.

Pass-Catching Ability

With a player possessing this pace and downhill ability, getting them in space and catching the ball will be vital to fantasy viability. If Guerendo is drafted into a situation where he doesn’t have to wear down the defense, we may see him used as a weapon in the passing game. Notably, he caught 17 and 22 balls in his last two collegiate seasons, showing improvement in the ball-catching area along the way.

Weaknesses

Agility and Mobility

Guerendo weighed in at 221 pounds at the NFL Combine, proving size isn’t going to be the issue that keeps him off the field. However, even though Guerendo showed speed in that environment, he didn’t offer much production at the college level in that regard. Unfortunately, he wasn’t regularly outrunning defenses, and he also didn’t seem to reach extra yardage after the first hits. If he can improve pass blocking and also his agility to extend plays, his college production and lackluster tape won’t be an issue.

NFL Fit and Draft Capitol

When it comes to Guerendo’s NFL Draft stock, he seemingly improved it during the NFL Combine. Just how much it improved is yet to be seen, but he’s most likely to be a Day 3 pick. If not, he will be a priority UDFA target for many NFL teams. Teams such as the Arizona Cardinals or Houston Texans may view a player like Guerendo as a value at the running back position towards the end of the NFL Draft.

Dynasty Outlook

Guerendo’s dynasty fantasy football outlook depends on where he goes and who is in front of him. If he goes to a backfield in need of spacing and receiving in the backfield, he’s a player to start considering in the rookie third rounds. However, if he goes late on Day 3 and has a depth chart to climb, he may be worth waiting for on the waiver wire.

Ultimately, this is a player whose outcomes could range anywhere from a Jaylen Warren change-of-pace role or simple running back waiver wire fodder. The talent he’s shown to this point in the process may favor the former outcome, which is well worth a rookie dart throw for dynasty managers in your upcoming dynasty rookie drafts.
