2024 NFL Mock Draft 2.0: Bears Keep Fields and Draft WR

2024 NFL Mock Draft 2.0: Bears Keep Fields and Draft WR

It’s mock draft season, and what better way to keep it rolling than with a controversial one? With the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine looming in the near future, several players could see a rise in their NFL Draft stock with good testing numbers and strong interviews. Medical evaluations will also be a massive determining factor in a player’s draft position, with a few in the top five at their position having a few medical concerns. Let’s dive into this NFL mock draft, where the Chicago Bears decide to keep Justin Fields and aren’t able to move the first overall pick.

2024 NFL Mock Draft 2.0

In an NFL world where teams lack a franchise quarterback, it would be shocking if the Bears couldn’t find a trade partner. However, the NFL is as unpredictable as anything, and a scenario like this needs to play out. What would they do in this case? Someone like Marvin Harrison Jr. is as special as we’ve seen, and we could see the first wide receiver selected as the number one overall pick since 1996 when the New York Jets selected Keyshawn Johnson.

What would this do to the quarterback landscape in the NFL Draft? We could see several teams try to jump inside the top five and grab a quarterback for cheaper, as it would bump guys like Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels down another pick. It could also mean teams can wait for someone like JJ McCarthy in the middle of the first round or make them more comfortable waiting until day two for someone like Michael Penix Jr., who will have important medical evaluations at the Scouting Combine.

A player to watch closely at the NFL Combine will be UCLA edge rusher Laiatu Latu. If it weren’t for a serious neck injury that forced him to medically retire earlier in his college career, he would be a lock as a top-five pick. He’s arguably the most pure pass rusher in the game with his athleticism, flexibility, and pass-rush arsenal. While Latu didn’t measure in with elite length, he makes up for that by rushing with an elite plan of attack and various moves that he can win with.

Let’s dive into the rest of the picks, how the first round could go with zero trades, and the conflict the Bears run into.

Check out how Mock Draft 1.0 went, where the Bears move on from Fields.

WR Marvin Harrison Jr., Ohio State
ANALYSIS: In a scenario where the Bears keep Justin Fields, it likely means they can trade the first overall pick and gain draft capital to build around what they consider their franchise quarterback. In this case, they couldn't trade it, giving them the chance to draft the best player in the class, giving Fields a top-tier weapon to succeed with.

Washington Commanders

QB Caleb Williams, USC
ANALYSIS: With the Bears passing on a quarterback, this allows the Commanders to start their rebuild with the current QB1 in the class. With just over 60 days until the clock begins on the 2024 NFL Draft, Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels will start sneaking their way into the top of mock drafts, but this gives Washington a good start to getting back to where they expect themselves to be.

New England Patriots
Demo Image
QB Jayden Daniels, LSU
ANALYSIS: Under new head coach Jerod Mayo, the Patriots need to start the new regime off on the right foot, and what better way than landing their franchise quarterback? Daniels has succeeded and improved every year in college and if he's bringing that to New England, they will finally get back to their winning ways.

Arizona Cardinals
Demo Image
EDGE Laiatu Latu, UCLA
ANALYSIS: The Cardinals are lacking talent on both sides of the ball. Best case scenario would be for Harrison to fall to them and give Kyler Murray a weapon to throw to, but with him off the board, they will look to build their defense and improve their pass rush. Despite the injuries, Latu is arguably the most pure pass rusher in the class and his potential is off the charts.

Los Angeles Chargers

TE Brock Bowers, Georgia
ANALYSIS: The Chargers are in an interesting spot where they just drafted a receiver last year but it looks like it could end up being a bust of a pick. However, they're missing an above-average tight end, leaving Bowers to fill that void while still being able to develop their former first-round pick.

New York Giants
Demo Image
QB Drake Maye, North Carolina
ANALYSIS: The Giants tried to make it work with Daniel Jones, but haven't found the success they have hoped for. There have been glimpses here and there, but if Maye falls to six for them, it should be a no-brainer to select him and move on from Jones, getting the value you can from a trade.

Tennessee Titans
Demo Image
OT Taliese Fuaga, Oregon State
ANALYSIS: The Titans had an awful offensive line last season, leaving them with a major hole to fill if they want to find success next season. Fuaga immediately upgrades their line, giving them the mauling mentality we were used to seeing from the Titans.

Atlanta Falcons
Demo Image
EDGE Dallas Turner, Alabama
ANALYSIS: As the Falcons continue to search for a pass-rusher, picking eight is a perfect spot to pick one of the top edge rushers in the class. Turner has developed into one of the best outside rushers in the class and is the opposite of a Falcons-like pick that we've seen in the past.

Chicago Bears
Demo Image
OT Olumuyiwa Fashanu, Penn State
ANALYSIS: If the Bears do decide to keep Fields and add a weapon at the top of the draft, the next thing to do is protect their franchise guy. Fashanu was a phenomenal pass blocker throughout his college career, making him a huge upgrade to the passing game in Chicago.

New York Jets
Demo Image
WR Rome Odunze, Washington
ANALYSIS: Of course, we could go offensive line for the Jets, but giving the aging quarterback another weapon alongside Garrett Wilson is very appealing. Odunze proved to be a tremendous deep threat for the Huskies, as he helped lead them to a National Championship birth.

Minnesota Vikings
Demo Image
QB J.J. McCarthy, Michigan
ANALYSIS: The Vikings did their due diligence on quarterbacks during the Senior Bowl and could be in on one from this class. With Kirk Cousins’ future uncertain, they could look to pull the trigger on their potential franchise guy. If they don’t trade up for one of the top three quarterbacks, McCarthy could end up being a target for them in the first round.

Denver Broncos
Demo Image
EDGE Jared Verse, Florida State
ANALYSIS: The Broncos struggled on the defensive line, making the need for an elite edge rusher an important focal point in the 2024 NFL Draft. Verse showed that his talent at a lower level could translate against the best players in the country. He would upgrade their defensive front immediately.

Las Vegas Raiders
Demo Image
CB Quinyon Mitchell, Toledo
ANALYSIS: Before the Senior Bowl, Mitchell was getting the attention of scouts and the media, but after what he showed at the All Star game, it was obvious the type of talent he has. The size, speed, and technique he has is very polished and would help mold the talent of the Raiders’ secondary.

New Orleans Saints
Demo Image
iDL Jer'Zhan Newton, Illinois
ANALYSIS: What was once a dominating defensive line has quickly gone downhill over the recent years. The Saints need to invest in young talent to develop their defensive line, and this class of defenders would do just that. Newton, for the past two years, has played at a top-tier level and would transform the Saints defensive front.

Indianapolis Colts
Demo Image
CB Cooper DeJean, Iowa
ANALYSIS: There are several ways the Colts could attack the draft, but focusing on versatility would bring their defense to another level. DeJean can play all five positions in the secondary, as well as return kicks. There’s not much he can’t do, which would go a long way to getting the Colts out of their rut.

Seattle Seahawks
Demo Image
EDGE Chop Robinson, Penn State
ANALYSIS: Several teams need help on the defensive line, and the Seahawks are no exception to this. From interior run stoppers to pass-rushing edge rushers, the group of defensive linemen is deep in the class of 2024. The athleticism and pass rush arsenal Robinson brings would be monumental to the Seahawks' defense.

Jacksonville Jaguars
Demo Image
WR Malik Nabers, LSU
ANALYSIS: The Jaguars got some help from their receivers last season, but if they want to elevate the play of Trevor Lawrence, getting him another weapon is paramount. Nabers has the ability of a top-10 pick, and if he falls to them here, it would be a dream come true.

Cincinnati Bengals
Demo Image
OT Joe Alt, Notre Dame
ANALYSIS: The Bengals have a supremely talented roster behind Joe Burrow, but they could benefit from improving their offensive line. With the weapons they already have, if they can build up their line to add protection for their franchise quarterback and keep him healthy, they can get back to competing for a Super Bowl.

Los Angeles Rams
Demo Image
CB Nate Wiggins, Clemson
ANALYSIS: The Rams' secondary lacks a true CB1, making defensive back a priority early in the 2024 NFL Draft. Wiggins has the speed and measurables to be a top corner, along with tremendous athletic traits. He can slot in day one as their number one guy.

Pittsburgh Steelers
Demo Image
OT Tyler Guyton, Oklahoma
ANALYSIS:  New mock draft - another offensive lineman to the Steelers. Guyton has the potential to be the best tackle in this loaded class, and if they can pair him with the developing talent and protect their quarterback, Mike Tomlin can get them deep into the playoffs again.

Miami Dolphins
Demo Image
iOL Jackson Powers-Johnson, Oregon
ANALYSIS: The idea the Dolphins take another offensive weapon is fun to think about, but protecting Tua Tagovailoa should be their top priority. While we all thought their offensive line would be better than it was, adding Powers-Johnson would help this line go from average to potentially great.

Philadelphia Eagles
Demo Image
CB Terrion Arnold, Alabama
ANALYSIS: The Eagles' secondary was as bad as it got last season. Darius Slay is aging, and James Bradberry looked rough, making the defensive back position an important group to target. Alabama has produced two elite corners in the class and Arnold would be a great fit for this defense.

Houston Texans (via CLE)
Demo Image
WR Brian Thomas Jr., LSU
ANALYSIS: The Texans made a splash last season and are looking like perennial playoff contenders for several years to come, with CJ Stroud under center. If they expect to be back in the mix year after year, grabbing a weapon for their quarterback will be very important.

Dallas Cowboys
Demo Image
CB Ennis Rakestraw Jr., Missouri
ANALYSIS: After losing Trevon Diggs to an injury, the Cowboys secondary really struggled. Adding depth from the loaded depth of talent in this class will help keep this defense rolling throughout the grueling season.

Green Bay Packers
Demo Image
iDL Darius Robinson, Missouri
ANALYSIS: The Packers seem to have found their franchise quarterback again. Now, it’s time to keep building that defense and become a well rounded squad. Robinson feels like a perfect fit for the Packers' defense. He has the size, athleticism, and strength, with the versatility to play all over the defensive line.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Demo Image
iOL Graham Barton, Duke
ANALYSIS: The Bucs showed they could win with a veteran quarterback under center - they just need to improve the protection around him. With the future of Mike Evans in question, they could decide to select an offensive weapon. But the versatility of Barton to play any position on the offensive line is too enticing here.

Arizona Cardinals (via HOU)
Demo Image
WR Keon Coleman, Florida State
ANALYSIS: Despite injury concerns, the Cardinals took an elite-level pass rusher for their first pick, leaving this pick to be an offensive weapon for Kyler Murray. With the plan in place to build around him, they need to find a big bodied target who can win in space, and Coleman can do just that.

Buffalo Bills
Demo Image
CB Kamari Lassiter, Georgia
ANALYSIS: With cornerbacks flying off the board, the Bills could go with the best player available or attack the next tier of a deep class of corners. Lassiter had a great career at Georgia, helping the defense lockdown a National Championship. He would immediately upgrade this secondary at get back to their dominating ways.

Detroit Lions
Demo Image
CB Kool-Aid McKinstry, Alabama
ANALYSIS: The Lions are looking to be one of the best teams in the NFC, and if they want to continue that trend, adding to their defense will be vital. McKinstry is a well-rounded corner who has the potential to be the number one guy on the outside, which fills a big need for them.

Baltimore Ravens
Demo Image
WR Troy Franklin, Oregon
ANALYSIS: The Ravens were arguably the best team in the league last year and had many believing they were destined to win the Super Bowl. With a tremendously talented team and a decent amount of offensive weapons, getting another big weapon for Lamar Jackson would be monumental.

San Francisco 49ers
Demo Image
OT JC Latham, Alabama
ANALYSIS: There’s no doubt that the 49ers have one of the most well-rounded teams in the NFL. Building on the strength of the offensive line will help keep them on that category. Latham could end up being the best tackle from this class, which would keep them from losing a step in the trenches.

Kansas City Chiefs
Demo Image
WR Roman Wilson, Michigan
ANALYSIS: Yes, the Chiefs won the Super Bowl, but there’s no denying they need to add weapons for Patrick Mahomes. Their offense has been built on speed, and Wilson has blazing speed with a polished route tree. He would pair nicely with standout rookie Rashee Rice from last season.
