Welcome to our guide on “5 Veterans to Buy Low for 2024 & Win Now” in Dynasty Football! In dynasty fantasy football, winning championships can get overlooked at times. With all of the fun around events like your rookie draft or the upcoming NFL Draft, it’s important to remember that having all of the flashy, young rookies on your roster is fun, winning is still the goal. Finding value from seasoned veterans is essential for immediate success.

5 Veterans to Buy Low in Dynasty Football Leagues

In this comprehensive analysis, we identify 5 veteran players who may be currently undervalued but have the potential to deliver significant contributions to your team’s success in the upcoming season. Whether you’re aiming to solidify your roster for a championship run or looking to capitalize on market inefficiencies, join us as we explore the strategic opportunities presented by these veterans in the ever-evolving landscape of dynasty football.

Let’s be honest. When it comes to dynasty fantasy football, the ultimate goal is to win championships. Drafting rookies and calling your shots on guys is fun, but the only thing people remember is who wins titles. Despite all of the fun offseason events to look for such as the 2024 NFL Draft and the NFL Combine, winning a dynasty championship is still the most important

While studying the incoming rookie class is highly entertaining, it’s important to talk about players who can help you win what matters most. While they are not as sexy, veteran players are integral pieces when you’re trying to build a championship team.

Let’s take a break from all the shiny new toys and examine 5 players who are seasoned veterans and can still help you win a dynasty league football title in 2024.

Aaron Jones (RB)

2023 was not Aaron Jones‘ best statistical season. Missing multiple games due to injury, it looked as though he may have finally hit the wall. However, he played his best when it mattered most. Totaling 475 yards from scrimmage and with weekly finishes of RB11, RB16, RB18, and RB21, Jones provided managers with a safe RB2 floor during the fantasy playoffs. Poor touchdown luck prevented Jones from being a true league winner.

Running mate AJ Dillon is currently set to hit free agency. It’s unclear if he will return to Green Bay. The Packers will surely add depth to their running back room at some point. But Dillon’s possible departure does help Jones’ outlook for 2024. Even if Dillon does return, he’s unlikely to usurp Jones’ role completely given what we have seen so far.

While Jones still looked plenty spry, we do have to acknowledge that he struggled with knee and hamstring injuries throughout the year. Typically, old running backs who begin to get injured keep getting injured. With that said, I would not let these injuries stop me from making a move. He played his best in the NFL and fantasy playoffs. In the end, Jones has some gas left in the tank.

However, I believe it is important to point out there is some risk. Ultimately, I believe Jones’ upside is worth chasing. It can put your team over the top. Heading into the final year of his contract, Jones appears to be locked into a feature role for one more year.

Derrick Henry (RB)

One of the premier free agents on the market is next on our list. Derrick Henry is entering his age 30 season in 2024. This is typically an age where running backs fall off the cliff completely. Henry is coming off a down season compared to his standards. He did not crack 1200 yards rushing and tied a career-low 4.2 yards per carry. 12 rushing touchdowns helped ease his final stat line as he went on to finish as the RB8 for the season.

While the raw stats were meh, the underlying data was quite strong. He ranked 8th in Pro Football Focus’ rushing grade. Per NFL Nextgen Stats he finished 12th in rush yards over expectation (RYOE) and 17th in RYOE per attempt.

The Titans offensive line was a disaster last season. The data above indicates that Henry’s play did not drop off. He’s got juice left in the tank. If he lands in the right situation in free agency, a return to the top five is a realistic possibility.

While older, Henry is one of those players who still has name cache in dynasty league football. You will probably have to pay a little more than you’d like to acquire a 30-year-old back. I think this is one of those times where it’s okay to do so, as I believe Henry still has enough gas left for one to two years. The fact is, he’s the only name on this list who can still carry you to a league title.

DeAndre Hopkins (WR)

Like his former Titans teammate above, DeAndre Hopkins’ play didn’t show signs of decline. He finished as the overall WR22 and posted his highest yards per reception since 2017. Per Fantasy Points Data Suite, he checked in with a 26.9% Target Share and a very solid .29 Targets Per Route Run (TPRR). He remains one of the game’s top target earners despite his age.

The Titans have an out in Hopkins contract this offseason should they choose to exercise it. This could mean he leaves in free agency and signs elsewhere. While that may be the preferred option for most dynasty gamers, I’d like to point out that remaining in Tennessee is not bad as as it looks. New coach Brian Callahan maximized receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins when he was offensive coordinator in Cincinnati. I have full faith he can figure out how to incorporate a future Hall of Famer into his offense.

As with all the names on this list, don’t overspend to get Hopkins. He is entering his age 32 season. I’ve always thought his game would age well, but we have to be realistic. The end is near. However, nothing suggests his play fell off. He can still be an integral part of a championship team for one more season.

Chris Godwin (WR)

While teammate Mike Evans enjoyed a banner year, Chris Godwin was a bit of a forgotten man. His two receiving touchdowns were part of the reason he finished as just the PPR WR29. He was relegated to WR3 duties for fantasy football. Despite this, he still surpassed 80 receptions and 1,000 yards for the fourth time in five seasons. It was another quality year for Godwin, just not his most productive for fantasy football purposes.

One of the reasons I find Godwin is an attractive buy candidate is that he could be primed to take over as the Buccaneers’ lead receiver. Evans is set to hit free agency this offseason. Should he sign elsewhere, more targets are coming Godwin’s way.

Furthermore, I also like Godwin as a good win-now player because his price is deflated due to a down year. He finished as just the overall WR29 last year. However, he’s still only 27 years old. While this is not great for dynasty purposes, it’s also not bad. Godwin still has a few years left in his prime. He has a solid track record dating back to 2019 when he finished as the overall WR2. He’s a great piece to help you compete not just in 2024, but also for a few years after. You can easily insert him into one of your flex spots.

All things considered, 2023 was Godwin’s floor. Any boost in volume or efficiency and Godwin will produce at least top 20 numbers again. I’m happy to buy from anyone looking to sell.

Raheem Mostert (RB)

There may not have been a bigger homerun pick in the later rounds of startups last year than Raheem Mostert. At age 31, Mostert is the Cabernet Sauvignon of running backs as he only gets better with age. Mostert would enjoy a career year in 2023. Finishing third in our signature Consistency Score among running backs, Mostert topped one thousand yards rushing for the first time in his career. A whopping 22 touchdowns were also a career-high and propelled him to an overall RB5 finish.

Mostert is still under contract for the 2024 season. The Dolphins do have an out in his contract and could cut him for only a $650,000 dead cap hit. After the season he just had though, I highly doubt Miami is looking to move on anytime soon.

Right now, the conventional logic in the dynasty community is that rookie standout De’Von Achane will shoulder more of the workload next year. While that is most likely true, it’s still uncertain that Achane will be able to handle a full workload. He did miss several games due to injury and is undersized for the position. There’s a possibility that we’re looking at a split backfield. Should Achane miss any extended time again, there’s nobody currently on the roster standing in Mostert’s way.

Given his age and Achane’s presence, Mostert is a player that most dynasty managers are probably looking to offload. I think this could be an angle to exploit. Mostert is older, but he’s got young legs. He barely saw any action early in his career. I’ve been actively exploring trade options in my leagues where I’m a contender. However, he might be able to produce for a year or two more.

You may have noticed there are several older backs on this list. I am an admitted dynasty ageist especially when it comes to running backs. However, with the incoming rookie running back class looking, well, a bit underwhelming, I think this is a good opportunity to buy the dip on some of these players. The odds are decent that we can squeeze a little more juice for one more year before things crater.

Remember, while it’s fun to play scout and general manager, the goal is still to win titles. Never completely lose sight of that.
