Patrick Mahomes 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Patrick Mahomes 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Football Outlook

When it comes to fantasy football, no position scores more fantasy points than the quarterback position. Many have said to wait on the position and take one later in the fantasy football draft. However, having a quarterback who can single-handedly win a fantasy week for you doesn’t hurt. One player who stands out more than most is Patrick Mahomes. The two-time NFL MVP and reigning Super Bowl champion is our consensus QB1 in our fantasy football rankings. Continue reading to find out Mahomes’ 2023 fantasy football outlook so you can dominate your league.

While many expected Mahomes to take a step back after the Kansas City Chiefs traded Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins, he did the opposite. Mahomes led all fantasy scorers with 429.4 fantasy points averaging 25.3 PPG in PPR. Furthermore, he finished with a career-high 5,250 passing yards and a league-leading 41 passing touchdowns. All this with Travis Kelce being his No.1 pass catcher. Can he repeat it again?

Fantasy Football Outlook 2023

Currently, Mahomes should be the top quarterback drafted in all fantasy football formats. In Superflex leagues, he’s the top pick of the draft. Going into his age-28 season, Mahomes is the safest player to draft in fantasy football.

Last offseason, the Chiefs’ main objective was to add receiving weapons around Mahomes after the Hill trade. This offseason’s plan has changed as both JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Harman have signed with other teams. The Chiefs bolstered their offensive line with the additions of Jawaan Taylor and Donovan Smith. Although Kelce is looking to pick up where he left off, the Chiefs drafted speedster Rashee Rice in the second round of the NFL Draft. The Chiefs haven’t exactly hit on wide receivers as we are hoping second-year receiver Skyy Moore can take the next step. Additionally, can Kadarius Toney prove he’s not a first-round bust this year?

These questions shouldn’t worry you as Mahomes is the type of quarterback who gets away without having a bonafide No.1 wide receiver as he spreads the ball all around like a point guard. Not to mention they re-signed running back Jerrick McKinnon who had 56 receptions in his own right.

With five consecutive years of throwing over 4,000 yards, he’s also thrown at least 37 touchdown passes in four of those seasons.

While he is a great passer, Mahomes has legs too. He rushed for over 300 yards for the third year in a row, adding four more rushing touchdowns. The Super Bowl-winning quarterback averaged a career-high 5.9 yards per carry, with the majority of these runs not run-designed. Often, just like in seasons past, Mahomes scrambled for positive yardage as the pocket collapsed around him. Moreover, he used his legs when he had to.

Overall, Mahomes should be the first quarterback drafted in your fantasy football leagues. With a pick worthy as early as a late Round 2 pick in one-quarterback leagues. While Kelce is still a dominant threat and Mahomes go-to receiver, someone else will need to step up in this offense. Mahomes will look to once again surpass 400 fantasy points and look to be one of the highest scorers once again.

Dynasty Football Outlook

Mahomes should be considered the top dynasty asset in Superflex leagues. As previously stated, he is one of the safest picks. In Superflex startup leagues he is currently going first overall. In your cookie-cutter dynasty leagues, he should be going as early as a second-round pick. Quite simply, he is the safest positional player in dynasty football leagues. Despite being the proverbial high-floor safety net, Mahomes still brings a high ceiling to the table. He’s finished as a top-six quarterback in FPPPG in each of the past five seasons since 2018, including ending as the QB2 in FPPG in two of the past three campaigns.

Mahomes will turn 28 years old this season and appears to improve by the year. With no signs of regression in sight, Mahomes is the de facto QB1 in dynasty leagues for the foreseeable future. Find out the quarterbacks behind Mahomes in our dynasty fantasy football rankings now.
