Saquon Barkley Fantasy Football Outlook (2024)

The New York Giants used the franchise tag on Saquon Barkley last year. The two sides had a rocky offseason, with the superstar running back threatening to sit out the 2023 season. Ultimately, they agreed to a reworked one-year deal.

Despite some speculating that the Giants would use the franchise tag on the former Penn State star again this offseason, Barkley hit the open market. Surprisingly, New York reportedly put limited effort into re-signing the superstar running back. While many thought the Eagles would never pay up for a running back under general manager Howie Roseman, the team went against their habits.

Barkley will replace D’Andre Swift as the lead running back in Philadelphia. While Kenneth Gainwell should see some touches, the superstar will receive most of the backfield workload with the Eagles in 2024. However, does changing NFC East teams improve Barkley’s fantasy football value?

Fantasy players need to worry about the superstar running back losing goal-line rushing touchdowns to Jalen Hurts. The franchise quarterback finished second in the NFL with 15 rushing touchdowns last season. However, Barkley is going from playing with one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL to arguably the best.

Furthermore, he has never been a high touchdown machine, totaling double-digit rushing scores only once since his rookie season. Unless the veteran struggles to stay healthy, Barkley should have another top-10 year in 2024.
