CJ Stroud OROY Odds After Week 9

CJ-Stroud-OROY-Odds-After-Week-9

Coming off a record-breaking Week 9 performance against the Buccaneers, rookie CJ Stroud has seen a spike in his OROY odds. And rightfully so. I’ll be breaking down the latest shift in odds on major sportsbooks and let you know just what the CJ Stroud OROY odds are following this historic performance.

CJ Stroud’s Record-Setting Week 9 Performance

Hosting the Buccaneers in Week 9, the Houston Texans were able to squeeze out a win, 39-37. Not only was Stroud lighting things up for fantasy football purposes, but he was breaking NFL records. As expected, the CJ Stroud OROY odds are lower than ever.

Notably, Stroud broke the NFL rookie single-game passing yards record with 470 passing yards. He became just the second rookie quarterback in NFL history with 400+ passing yards and five touchdowns in a single game. The other quarterback? Matthew Stafford, back in Week 11 of the 2009 season. In that game, he had 422 yards in a 38-37 win over the Cleveland Browns.

In the end, Stroud’s fifth touchdown of the game was a 15-yard go-ahead touchdown to rookie Tank Dell, with just six seconds left on the clock. Not only was this a monster performance on the box score, but finding a way to win a tight game like this one was equally impressive. All in all, this was a huge day for the Houston Texans’ second-overall pick.

Updated OROY Odds After Week 9

Prior to Week 9, Stroud was on pace to be a potential candidate for offensive rookie of the year (OROY). According to many major online sportsbooks, he was the favorite. Some sportsbooks, such as DraftKings, had him around -165 odds just a few days ago. Fellow rookies, Puka Nacua, Jahmyr Gibbs, Will Levis, and Jordan Addison were the next closest, according to Legal Sports Report.

Now, every sportsbook out there will be featuring Stroud as the clear-cut OROY candidate after this historic Week 9 performance. For example, as of Sunday evening, just a few hours after this game ended, Stroud is -500 on DraftKings to win OROY. Needless to say, this is a massive bump for the Texans QB, and rightfully so.

If you’re looking to bet on someone to win OROY right now, Stroud is certainly not the best bet. Anytime a bet is at -500 odds, there really isn’t much reason to bet on it. The risk/reward is simply not worth it. However, it’s absolutely worth noting and Stroud is going to be the safest pick to win this award moving forward.
