Senior Bowl 2024 – Top Standout Players and How to Watch

Senior Bowl 2024 - Top Standout Players and How to Watch

Known as one of the most prestigious All-Star games for college football players, the Senior Bowl has consistently produced top-level NFL talent, putting the top seniors from around the country up against each other. This year was different, as underclassmen were allowed to participate in the event.

With the 75th Senior Bowl practices concluding, we’ve seen several players from the game make impacts in the NFL, such as Phillip Rivers, LaDainian Tomlinson, and Dan Marino. This year’s class of prospects has been some of the best we’ve seen in recent years. Many of them got bumps in their NFL Draft rankings and will continue to rise throughout the rest of the NFL Draft process. Let’s look at a few of the top players from the Senior Bowl this year.

Here is the full list of players in the Senior Bowl 2024.

Top Standout Players from the 2024 Senior Bowl

Running Backs

USC RB MarShawn Lloyd had a phenomenal week of practice, showing off exceptional burst and elusiveness. His vision to bounce the run outside and quickly get to top speed was impressive. Additionally, he even impressed catching passes out of the backfield.

After spending three seasons with South Carolina, Lloyd transferred to USC, where he displayed his ability to be an every-down back. Throughout the year, there were a few questions about whether or not he could handle a full workload. However, what he displayed at the Senior Bowl was an answer to all those questions. With a lack of top-tier talent at the running back position, Lloyd proved why he should be in the conversation for a day-two pick in the NFL Draft.

Wide Receivers

Michigan WR Roman Wilson came into the week as a late day-two to early day-three draft pick. However, now it’s clear as day that he’ll end up being selected much earlier after he dominated top-tier cornerback talent this week at the Senior Bowl. His route running ability was top-notch, creating separation with his athleticism and quick-twitch abilities. Wilson’s hands and tracking ability were phenomenal, making highlight real catches, and he was smooth while tracking balls over his shoulder.

Furthermore, while Wilson was projected as a slot receiver in the NFL, he proved he could be a versatile weapon on offense, as he won on the boundary and over the middle of the field. Consider him an early day-two prospect who has the potential to sneak his way into the backend of the first round.

Offensive Linemen

Oregon State RT Taliese Fuaga was regarded as a first-round prospect by many in the media. Recently, he showed why throughout the week of practice at the Senior Bowl. He dominated in one-on-ones with defensive linemen, winning with phenomenal hand technique, great balance, and outstanding strength. Right now, many have Penn State LT Olumuyiwa Fashanu and Notre Dame LT Joe Alt as their top offensive linemen. However, Fuaga could be selected higher in the NFL Draft and has moved his stock into the top 15.

Wisconsin iOL Tanor Bortolini had a big week, boosting his draft stock from a mid-to-late day-three pick in the NFL Draft to potentially much earlier than we anticipated. He had reps both at center and at guard, showing he has position versatility across the offensive line. Bortolini had a strong initial punch, getting into the chest of defensive linemen and controlling the rep. While he’s likely not going to be a first-round pick, after this week, he might not sneak out of day two of the NFL Draft.

Defensive Linemen

Missouri DL Darius Robinson came into the week with impressive measurables: he stood 6050 and weighed 286 pounds, had 1040 hands, 3468 arms, and an 8448 wingspan. Robinson took reps as a 3-tech and edge rusher, winning many of his reps anywhere on the defensive line. He used his length to get inside offensive linemen and showed his athleticism and flexibility to win around the edge. After this week, Robinson has worked his way into the first-round conversation of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Baylor DL Gabe Hall started the week of the Senior Bowl red-hot as one of the best and most dominating defensive linemen early in the week. While he cooled off a bit, the flashes of potential outweighed the rest, beating offensive linemen with his size and athleticism. Hall measured in at 6056 and weighed 290 pounds, with 938 hands, 3438 arms, and an 8400 wingspan. If his play is any indication of what he could bring to an NFL team, someone is getting a steal in the later portions of day two of the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.

Linebackers

It feels like we’ve been watching North Carolina State LB Payton Wilson as an NFL Draft prospect for many years. Still, we finally get to see him transition to the NFL, and he showed why he’s one of the best linebackers in a questionable group. Wilson’s coverage ability and speed were on full display at the Senior Bowl, locking down running backs out of the backfield and hanging with the size of the tight end group. Look for Wilson to be a top-50 selection in the 2024 NFL Draft after his strong week of Senior Bowl practices.

As a late add to the 2024 Senior Bowl, California LB Jackson Sirmon made the absolute most of his opportunity to show why he’s one of the best sleeper linebackers in the 2024 NFL Draft. He was making play after play throughout the week, coming up with tough interceptions and putting himself in a position to make plays consistently, reading the quarterback’s eyes and flying to the ball. If his play this week is any indication of things to come, Sirmon made himself some money this week and will be taken much higher in the draft than previously anticipated.

Defensive Backs

Cornerback rankings have fluctuated throughout the year, and one of the biggest risers during the season was Toledo CB Quinyon Mitchell. He displayed why many of us were so high on him, playing sticky coverage against some of the best wide receivers in the country and showing his elite-level athleticism and technique. Towards the end of the week, coaches lined him up against Roman Wilson. All in all, both got the best of each other at times, showing they both are at the top of the list regarding winners from the Senior Bowl.

While other cornerbacks were falling in the NFL Draft rankings, another rose with his outstanding play throughout the year. The question would be how he would handle the top-level talent at the Senior Bowl. However, Oregon CB Khyree Jackson came to prove he’s one of the better defensive backs in the NFL Draft. He’s a physical corner with a great size/speed profile and can match up against bigger receivers on the boundary. While there’s still development left to his game, Jackson could wind up being the steal of the middle rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft.
