Fantasy-Football-Waiver-Wire-Pickups-Week-8-2023

Welcome back to another edition of Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups. We’re heading into Week 8 of the 2023 NFL season. For your fantasy football teams, adding the right players off the waiver wire is absolutely crucial to your fantasy football success. Follow along with us all season long and we’ll help you make your way into the fantasy football playoffs.

In the Week 7 bye-nado, I hope you survived as there were a lot of interesting games. First, we had a Thursday night game that started out as a snoozer and ended up being a great game. Then we had the early afternoon games which made it an exciting start. The Detroit Lions came back down to earth as Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens poured it on for a 38-6 final. And how about Myles Garrett? That man is not human for what he did. He was an IDP winner this week.

How about that Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce combo this week? I thought for sure Kelce was going to go over 200 receiving yards. Did you know that Kelce has returned to his dominant TE1 with Taylor Swift in attendance? Let’s hope this love story continues all season long.

Next, can anyone stop A.J. Brown? That now makes it five games in a row with at least 125 receiving yards. Truly, the squeaky wheel does get the grease. Additionally, the same can be said for rookie wide receiver Puka Nacua. He now has  58 receptions for 752 yards and two touchdowns for the season. He may win Offensive Rookie of the Year at this pace.

Finally, how about that Monday night game? Christian McCaffrey holds the record now with 16 straight games with a touchdown! Additionally, Jordan Addison is HIM. Ultimately he dominated the San Francisco 49ers, catching seven of 10 balls for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Finally, the 49ers have lost back-to-back games for the first time since Week 6 and Week 7 last season! Talk about Deja Vu.

Surprisingly, there are no byes this week.

With the above in mind, no matter our record, there are always areas to improve. Regardless of your situation, here are players you should look to add for Week 8 based on CBS Fantasy Sports roster percentages. These players are listed in order of priority. Let’s get right into it with the top waiver wire pickups for your fantasy football teams as we head into Week 8!

For this waiver wire column, we are only looking at players rostered in less than 60% of leagues according to CBS as of 10/24/23.

Quarterback Waiver Wire Pickups

Derek Carr, QB, Las Vegas Raiders (60% Rostered)

Carr’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars didn’t start out all so well, but he turned on in the second half. For the second week in a row, Carr threw for 300 yards. But once again failed to throw for multiple touchdowns. Although there was an almost touchdown catch by Foster Moreau, unfortunately, he dropped it. The Jaguars were a great start to a pass-friendly schedule as he takes on Indianapolis this week followed by Chicago and Minnesota before going into their bye. If you’re streaming quarterbacks on your fantasy football team this year, Carr is worth looking at as one of the top waiver wire pickups. Overall, Carr is worth up to 5% of your remaining FAAB.

Gardner Minshew, QB, Indianapolis Colts (21% Rostered)

Now a four-total touchdown performance shouldn’t be expected on a weekly basis, but Minshew is the Colts starter for the remainder of 2023. For the minimal amount of weekly rushing upside, Minshew rushed the ball three times for 29 yards and two touchdowns against the Browns. He’s a player who isn’t afraid to sling it around the yard and could viewed as a back-end QB1. Given that, Minshew is worth 1% of your remaining FAAB.

See if available: Kyler Murray (64%) I’ve been saying for weeks to stash Murray if you have an IR slot and are looking to return for Week 10 against the Atlanta Falcons. The Cardinals may be 1-5, but are a competitive team. The Cardinals owe Murray $29 million this season, so he will return as he could be a trade piece for 2024 or the team’s future.

Running Back Waiver Wire Pickups

Darell Henderson, RB, Los Angeles Rams (32% Rostered)

While we all rushed to add Zach Evans to our rosters, it was later in the week when Royce Freeman and Henderson were added to the active roster. If you listened to Beer Fueled Fantasy Football Podcast, you would have heard me mention that it’s Henderson as the running back to have here. Jokingly, it came true as Henderson rushed for 61 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. Now, with Kyren Williams and Ronnie Rivers out for at least the next three games. Therefore I have a hard time spending a lot of FAAB on him. If you’re in desperate need of a running back, I would spend no more than 15% of your remaining FAAB.

Devin Singletary, RB, Houston Texans (28% Rostered)

Last week, I had Singletary as an add, but understood he was going into his bye. Now we are back once again. In Week 6, Singletary saw 54% of the snap. He turned that into 12 carries for 58 yards. Compared to Dameon Pierce who had 13 carries for 34 yards. Singletary could start seeing more opportunities going forward and needs to be rostered in more leagues. All things considered, he is worth adding for 1-3% of your remaining FAAB.

Royce Freeman, RB, Los Angeles Rams (24% Rostered)

Surprisingly it was Freeman and Darrell Henderson who saw all the running back opportunities. Although Henderson had the majority of the touches, it was Freeman who was more efficient. Even in a complimentary role, Freeman holds FLEX value for as long as Kyren Williams and Ronnie Rivers are out. He’s worth adding for 1-3% of your remaining FAAB.

Emari Demarcado, RB, Arizona Cardinals (38% Rostered)

After being dropped by most fantasy managers, we’re looking to add Demarcado once again. Do you know how this Cardinals backfield will play out until James Conner returns? Demercado played 78% of the snaps on Sunday rushing 13 times for 58 yards and adding four receptions for 17 yards on five targets. Will this usage continue for Week 8? It’s a tough matchup against Baltimore followed by the Browns. With Conner expected to miss two more games, Demercado could be a flex play worth up to 5% of your remaining FAAB.

See if available: D’Onta Foreman (79%): Carried the ball 16 times for 89 yards and caught three of his five targets for 31 yards and three total touchdowns. He should look to continue his streak against the Chargers. Ezekiel Elliott (64%):  While it wasn’t a great showing, Elliott rushed 11 times for 31 yards and a touchdown. He’s a good addition off the waiver wire for your fantasy football teams if you have a bench spot and would need an emergency fill-in.

Wide Receiver Waiver Wire Pickups

Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Seattle Seahawks (56% Rostered)

Smith-Njigba saw an expanded role with DK Metcalf out with rib and hip injuries. The uptick in play time from Week 6 carried over into Week 7 as Smith-Njigba scored his first NFL touchdown. Not to mention he led the team with four catches, and 63 yards all while seeing seven targets. The best prospect in the class flashed what he could do, and I don’t see him coming off the field much anymore. He’s worth adding for 5-10% of your remaining FAAB.

Josh Downs, WR, Indianapolis Colts (44% Rostered)

The breakout continued on for Downs as it’s now three games straight over 10 PPR points, thanks to a 59-yard touchdown reception. Downs had five receptions on six targets for 125 yards and a touchdown. It was his first game over the century mark. Let’s hope this offense turns into a pass-happy one as Downs is breaking out. He’s a borderline WR3 going forward. He’s worth 10-15% of your remaining FAAB.

Kendrick Bourne, WR, New England Patriots (46% Rostered)

Before last week, Bourne was someone I was not interested in as I was fooled by his Week 1 performance. However, it’s now back-to-back weeks with at least 15 PPR points all while seeing 18 targets. Additionally, his big games have been due to the absences of either DeVante Parker or JuJu Smith-Schuster. I have a hard time trusting Bourne in Week 8 against the Dolphins but is someone I want to add to my bench. He’s worth 1-3% of your remaining FAAB.

See if available: Rashee Rice (79%): That makes it three games in a row with at least 10 PPR points. The rookie continued his ascension in the Chiefs offense as he was second in targets (six) and has now scored a touchdown in two of his last three games. Josh Palmer (75%): Palmer has benefitted tremendously with Mike Williams going on IR. Over his last three games, he’s seen 22 targets turning that into 12 receptions for 270 yards. He’s primed to have a big game once again against the Bears.

Tight End Waiver Wire Pickups

Dalton Kincaid, TE, Buffalo Bills (50% Rostered)

Many fantasy managers drafted Kincaid to be their TE1 thinking that the first-round draft capital was the reason. Throughout the first five games, Kincaid never had any more than six targets. Additionally, he never did much with his receptions as he never saw any more than 43 yards in a given game. Here in Week 7, we saw Kincaid explode catching all eight of his targets for 75 yards.

This could be leading to something more going forward as we know how big of a dumpster fire the tight end position is. This could fruition into something special here. Kincaid is worth adding for 5% of your remaining FAAB.

Taysom Hill, TE, New Orleans Saints (42% Rostered)

That is now back-to-back games of over 10 PPR points for Hill. Over his last two games, Hill has had 13 targets turning it into 11 catches for 99 yards. Additionally, we can’t forget his rushing upside as he did score his first one of the season Thursday night. As long as Juwan Johnson is out, we can view Hill as a TE1. All in all, he’s worth up to 5% of your remaining FAAB.
